Whats the best cd ripping software?

Read that the EAC software was the best. Was wanting to check before paying the $60, or whatever they want. It syas its AVS after youve downloaded it, and doesnt mention money at first. Any advice?

What do you want to rip? There is EXCELLENT free and legal software for every possible ripping job. If it's just music, CDex is excellent, for example. There is no ripping job that can't be done with truly free software.

"Widely acclaimed". Now there's a scientific statement. Tell you what. You get all the pro-EAC stuff you can find. I'll get two positive recommendations for CDex for each one.

 

Well worth a little effort to aquire it if you're serious about your music.

Another vote for CDex.

 

I use CDex to rip to MP3 with LAME options -alt preset standard (you will find this in the configuration menu).

 

When I play the MP3 files on the PS3 through the amp and speakers, I can hardly defrentiate between them and the CD original.

Heh. Do we credit CDex or blame your ears?

 

Just kidding. My ears are so bad that anything but a tinny, horrible rip sounds great to me. A huge amount of my music listening is in the car, anyhow. I don't doubt that some sensitive people can hear the difference but I think a lot of MP3 complainers are like wine snobs who you easily fool with any half-decent rip.

 

That said, nothing wrong at all with getting good software to do the best possible rip-and-conversion, nothing at all.

Technical answer is neither. CDex is a simple interface for LAME. I have some good audio equipment and can diffrentiate good and bad recordings. After many experiments, I found that CDex with "LAME -alt preset standard" option gives a very high quality output.

 

I have to agree though that the ears may be playing tricks. They are not getting any younger.

Another vote for CDex. I've seen it rip cd's that eac choked on.
