Barbaric sport and should be banned !

Recommended Posts

It's sport, only right that the underdog should come out on top now and again, bit harsh that they ended up shooting the bull though, case of a bad loser.

Like Colombian soccer.

So sitting in a tree with a rifle that can shoot a mile and be very accurate is a sport called deer hunting, should that be banned too.. let's not ban anything and let's start taking our self righteous pill in half dozes instead of two at a time. :kissing

Hi,

What an athletic bull. Bull fighting is hard wired into the Spanish soul and will still take place in a 1000 years when all these shitheads who oppose it now are well gone TG.

I believe the year was 1998. I was on holiday in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and I thought it'd be cool to see a live bullfight. So the next day I buy a ticket and take my seat. I see that I'm surrounded by gringo Americans thinking, myself included, the next hour would be rather exciting. The first bull comes out and he looked nothing like the bulls that fight in spain. He was small, skinny, and skittish. He had to be teased into action. Once the bull began to move with aggression, it was all that I expected. But them things changed. The bull showed so much energy that these guys on horses, called pecadoros, began spearing the bull in the back while they sit atop their saddles. We started to boo these guys as it was every bit cowardly. The matador returns and runs the bull 'til his tongue starts to hang from his mouth. The little bull puts up as good a fight as he can, being so out numbered. THe matador shows off his long sword. As the bull comes, the matador sticks the bull. From the bullfights Ive seen on tv, It dawns to me, they never broadcast the audio because when the bull was hit, he let out this sound that I wasnt prepared to hear. With one swore in him, he has to be enticed to charce again. He did and was stabed again. Now the hollowing doesnt stop and the bull drops to his front knees. He wont charge anymore so the matador walks to him and pulled out about a 6inch knife and started to saw the bull's spinal cord at the base of his neck. The bull crys out for what seemed like half a minute. Then the bull gets real quiet and the pecadors return and tie the bull by his hind legs and off goes the bull.

Half the audience left. I waited to see if the next bull would be any bigger and he was. The bull had lots of energy and I thought this bull would be a different story but I was wrong. They brought out the pecadoros and I left. About 1/4 of the crowd stayed. Maybe the beer was cheap.

I love eating a good hamburger, steak, chicken or fish. I even went to Pamplona and Ran with the bulls. But if a law was passed banning bullfights, it may be a good thing.

as opposed to the cattle that never see anything but their pens until they are slaughtered for your hamburger, or the turkeys so breast enhanced that they cannot stand, give me a break, meat is food so who cares how it gets there.

my grandpa was a butcher 40 years ago and when they killed the cows it was not pretty either, so such is life.

Big difference. Meat keeps you alive. Bull fighting is for 'fun'. Cruel fun. I'm not again banning bull fighting. I won't go see it or watch it on TV.

BTW, I thought it was way cool that the bull got to kick some ass.

I would hardly call bullfighting a sport. Anytime an animal is tortured to death completely removes the sport and makes it a spectacle for sadists.

It is their culture and while I don't like it myself I think they have every right to practice it. Many cultures have what I consider cruel practices that have been traditionally handed down.

FYI, they do butcher the bulls and cook them up after the bull fight.. Not much of a consolation for you guys that are too wimpy to realize that an animals life is not running free in open pastures before they become your subway sandwiches and your mcdonald's hamburgers but the meat is used.

I am against causing pain and death to an animal for my pleasure. Yes one does kill for food but death can be made less painful and quicker as I believe is done in most of the developed world...

I have never been to a bull fight. I never will...

Well... okay. But you DO cause pain and death for the pleasure of that stack or ribs or bowl of soup. It's a quicker death as you say, and a shorter period of pain. But it's still pain and death. Vegetarians do it too, of course, trying to justify it by saying they are not doing it to animals, but plants are living things.

I think we're discovering that some people wrestle with this and justify -- and some people don't give a xrap.

So true we all draw the line somewhere but it seems many think / feel that where they draw the line is the end all be all. Not everyone shares the same thoughts and feelings about the same thing, banning something just because some doesn't like it or feel it is wrong isn't the solution . I have no interest in or seeing a bull fight so I can choose not to go where it is happening, I shouldn’t ban it for those who are interested in it.

Took the words out of my mouth... Same applies to morality, religion, prinicples, honesty and almost everything else...

Excellent reply, and right on the money.

I don't care, you don't care, and you're cribbing about something that you have no stake in, for sure.
