I've recently undergone open heart surgery to have my aortic valve replaced.

 

For the foreseeable future I find myself on the following heart medications.

 

Bicor (10mg) bisoprolol fumarate

Atacand (16mg) candesartan cilexetil

 

I was wondering if anyone knows if these are available over the counter in Pattaya or a prescription is needed?

 

Also an indication of price would be greatly appreciated.

 

Just wondering whether to bring my own or get them there.

You could contact Fascino. There are (at least) two branches in Pattaya. One on Pattaya Klang (not too big) and one on Pattaya Nua (almost like a small shopping mall located almost opposite Lotus). Unfortunately they don'y have a website but I found on the following telepnone numbers for their Pattaya Klang branch: +66 38 361 803 or +66 38 361 804.

 

Once you are a regular customer you are entitled for a discount card.

There is one just over Sukhumvit too.... it is located behind Numchai, opposite the little Tesco. Heading up Sukhumvit (Nua towards Klang) turn left just after Soi Siam Country Club at the Bangkok Bank, follow the road round and it is on the right opposite the Tesco. As I have slight high blood pressure avg about 140/90 I take 8mg of candesartan cilexetil

I have taken two manufacturing types ,the first one was very cheap to buy here in thailand,but did not agree with me

 

For last 2 years I have now taken BLOPRESS ,which seems to manage aand control my blood pressure without any ill effects ,SEE Pic

 

Im sure you can get in Pattaya as I get mine from my local clinic here in Khon Kaen,clinic run by the Khon Kaen general hospital

 

Part of my management / control of my blood pressure is to go to the local thai clinic ,get blood pressure taken every 2 months ,see doctor who then prescribe my med for two months .

Will shock some BMs ,this service is free all i pay for is the tablets .

Price of Tabs are 22 bhts each from the clinic ,but if i buy at chemist they would charge me 30 bhts a tab.

Alf, you might find that the pharmacutical benifits scheme subsidy makes it cheaper in Australia than Thailand. This was the case for me with blood pressure tables. From memory the differenc in price was around 35%. My doc in Austrlalia made sure i had enough for 6 months (even though the max she was alowed to do was 3 months) as I live in a very remote part of the world.

Lodoz Tab (2.5/6.25) 1 per day after breakfast

Hyzaar Tab 50Mg 1 per day after breakfast

 

My three monthly trips to the Bangkok/Pattaya hospital costs me 6,640 baht and is made up as follows.

So much for paying 33.000 baht per year to BUPA?

 

Physician evaluation 1.000 baht

Package medication 0.150 baht

3-monhs medication 5.490 baht

 

Total 6.640 baht

 

I have my own heart monitor and take weekly readings which I document then hand over to the hospitals Physician at each three monthly appointment.

He takes a brief look, states the readings look fine then writes out a prescription for a three month supply for which I’m charged 1000 baht.

My medication has been the same for the past two years so do I really need to pay 1000 baht for someone to write out a prescription then a further 150 baht to place the tablets in a small bag? not forgetting the ‘mark up’ at the hospital for medication.

 

Knowing the local pharmacist to where i live works out of the Bangkok/Pattaya hospital I got the misses to speak with her to see if she could supply me with my next three months tablet supply.

No problem there and her quote came to 4.080 baht which is a saving of 1.410 baht and if you add the prescription writing charges and packaging I’m better off to the tune of 2.560 baht.

No prescription was required at my local Pharmacy.

I'm coming for six months and was wondering where I'd find a good hypertension doctor in Pattaya.

I also have a heart condition and am on beta blockers and cholesterol tabs,always been able to get them over the counter in LOS.The only slight problem is that they are called different names in different countries,but they have a book they can look up to get the local brand names.
