I spent the last two days trying to fix my sound. I have used windows update, CD divers that came with the computer and driver detective. All though I have managed to update a lot of stuff on my computer I still can't get it to recognise my sound card.

Machine Info: Gigabyte AMD Socket AM3 GA-MGIPM(rev.20)

Operating system: Windows XP Home

Physical Memory: 1GB

Processor Model: AMD Athlon™ 64x2 Dual core processor 3800+

Mother Board Model: Gigabyte Technology co, ltd-M61PM-S2

Bios Info: Award Modular Bios V6.00PG

Release date 22/03/07

Version GBT-42302e31

I don't want to update my computer it suits my needs, I would just like to get the sound back for play music and the odd youtube video.

If anybody could suggest something I will see if I haven't already tried it.

Thanks Sue

Sue,

Can you check Device manager and see if you have any yellow exclamation triangles or unknown devices and check that you have a device listed under Sound?

I did have a yellow exclamation on PCI but I have been able to fix that.

Speaker system: No drivers are installed for this device.

Sound, video and game controllers: All listed EG: Audio Codescs have this message This device is working properly.

Sue,

If you've got your original drivers disk, then what I would do is unistall all your audio devices and drivers and also check if you've got a program installed for your sound chip. If so Add/Remove and uninstall that as well.

Power off and then restart your system and you should be prompted for installing the drivers when you get the 'new hardware detected' prompt.

If this doesn't work, I'd then look to reset all the audio references in the registry See Here for a reference on how to do that.

BUT FIRST,

Do ensure that it isn't something like wave output disabled or muted or speaker volume set to 0 :-) (I've seen it several times)

Souns cards and devised rarely pack up. It sounds like it is a set up fault. Again this should be able to be sorted in devices.

The problem we all make sometimes is that we try altering things and then dont reverse the action if it does not work, then there can be all sorts of related probs. As said, try download the driver and software for your sound device and reinstall.

Hi,

Sounds the best course of action. If that dosen't work the sound card may have come loose and may have to be physically re-inserted to the board.

You'll need to put those back of course.

Aussiechic, does the "beep" work on the computer. Do you get those weird noises when you click the wrong file and so on? That's a sign that the physical speaker is working/broken.

As Skygod says, first thing is to click on the little speaker thingmy-icon down near the clock. Make sure none of the boxes with "Mute" are ticked. Make sure the volume levels aren't at zero.

Go into the Sound section on Control Panel. Click Start, Control Panel and double-click Sounds and Audio Devices. You'll get a Properties window. Make sure "mute" isn't checked. Make sure the "device volume" is somewhere near High. Click on the speaker settings, go through there, look for stuff like "mute" ticked. Click on the Audio tab, go through "Default device" and playback options. UNTICK repeat UNTICK "Use only default devices" in case it is ticked.

Click on "Hardware" then "Troubleshoot" - why not?

Then as wac says, the next two steps will be to reinstall the drivers from the people who made your sound card. If no response, you'll have to open the box and find the actual sound card and make sure it is tightly seated, with all attached wires going somewhere and doing something.

If all of these options fail, then something is definitely broken. Could be a wire cut or grounded, but probably the speakers have packed up or something along that line.

Good luck. These machines are out to get us.

This motherboard has onboard sound, so it's not going to be a badly seated card. The original motherboard driver CD should have all the necessary drivers.

You have got your speakers plugged in to the green coloured line out jack? And the speakers are working okay?

All software for this board can be downloaded from Gigabyte

I have downloaded many recommend drivers and chip thingies the Diver Detective helped download these and picked up the PCI thing wasn't working which now is.

Sound and device Properties: Volume- No Audio Device and in Audio it says no play back device.

I have check all the plugs and checked the speakers.

This all happened after I remove a program I was testing BlazeDTV it said it shared programs with windows which I obviously deleted. I have since reinstalled it but still no sound.

Wow. Only thing that occurs to me now is to do a System Restore back to before you put that Blaze program in.

.

Not sure that recovers deleted programs Joe, although a worthwhile and easy 'try'.........

Try some internet searches mentioning BlazeDTV , perhaps some other poor soul has already had the problem or get in touch with the supplier to see if they know the fix.

If there is a backup available on the computer it might be a place to look, but I smell a Windows re-installation.

I looked at the recover thing in the beginning but it was turned of so by turning it on it start from there, so there was no recovery.

As I don't need sound I am just going to keep trying things, One thing I did was update my Blue tooth so I have sound now for blue tooth devices but when I unplug this it goes back to nothing.

When I return in a couple of weeks I will take it to the shop their petty good probably only cost the mim $50 bucks.

720 Baht for a Sound Card! I paid 250 Baht for a Yamaha XG based card in TukCom last year.

good for you, that card i linked was the first cab off the rank, yes there is cheaper and yes there is more expensive, was just a thought to maybe help fix the OP's PC.
