I have been looking to book from Manchester and checking prices for the last month. I have just booked for January 2011 on Etihad for £622 which is the lowest I have found for good travel times - 15 hours one way. They seem to put prices up and down, up and down so you may get a better price if you keep checking.

Airlines should offer discounts to visit during Soak-Kran.

No kidding.. that's what I was telling Delta.. That is hot season..

Fares from the states have gone up $300-500 in the last couple of weeks..

All airlines. Going to try again on Monday's to see what happens.

You just checked eh?

Why do I not find it surprising that air fares are sky high (if you'll pardon the pun) with just over a month to go before peak high season?

Looked at going in April from April 8th-16th via EVA Economy Elite...Totall was $1800 WTF???????

So went to the trusty Kayak.com and found Air China for $913 all in. Economy though anyone ever used Air China?

Flew China Air once and never again....Also Cathay Pacific was about $1040 and saw in 2011 they are offering Economy Plus.....

Also tried this website and found some cheap airfares..vayama

You would need to make a booking at whatever the going rate is to be waitlisted in the first place. :clueless

That said, in my experience, there normally tends to be some good offers released by the airlines/agents immediately after the New Year holiday.

Be careful with results from Kayak.com regarding Air China fares.

My experience has been that when Air China comes in with the lowest price, and you SELECT it, by going to Orbitz or Expedia, the fare is not found. And, then if you go to the Air China site, they come up with a much higher price (like instead of 1100 USD, it's 2300 USD), or instead of a business fare, it's listed as an economy fare on their site.

I've been trying to book a flight RT SFO-BKK in January, and I've had zero luck punching through to the low fares shown by kayak for Air China, and then finding them actually available.

I've reported this to kayak, and they acknowledge there is a problem.

Not sure mate, thats why i asked.I have heard there is such a thing but be prepared to move within hours.

Computerised Reservation Systems have pretty much done away with the notion of standby fares that we had in the UK in the 80s or early 90s. Generally speaking, when you make a booking each segment will show your booking status - OK or HK1 for confirmed, WL for wait-listed or RQ for the seat being requested but not confirmed. Cheapie "standbys" normally only go to airline or industry employees nowadays.

Not all schedules are good so cheapest price usually means crappiest schedule. I could have goten China Eastern ex-Vancouver for C$300 cheaper but sitting in Shanghai airport 9 hours waiting for a connector kinda sucks.

Ok Will do..I have seen on the vayama website that they will allow me to purchase the low cost ticket for air china although it has gone up $30.00 already..Got their website off of one of the companion ones that kayak shows..

We staff, find s/by on 25th and 31st of Dec good days to get a seat. :frustrated1:

We have to work both days, why not fly on them ?

Edited to add- Unless you are flying to Miami, the 25th is booked as a normal day.
