I once stood under the Mennin Gate while the local fire brigade played The Last Post. They did this EVERY DAY at 9pm in Summer and 6pm in winter.

 

There were old soldiers there, some in wheelchairs. It moved me to tears to see them saluting their dead comrades. This was in 1968. They have now joined them. Harry Patch being the last Tommy to die this year or so.

Just watched the Remembrance Day ceremony from Ottawa on CBC. They were blessed with brilliant sunny weather. The Empire does this rather better than we do in the U.S.
