Funny that.....it seems to be an infection that has spread to many other brands of new golf ball that I use. I even managed to put a brand new Titleist ProVI into the North Sea when the tide was out at St. Andrews (note the reference to St. Andrews for Gren's benefit)!

It is a well-known fact that the golf balls you buy from the stalls in Thailand have been recovered from water hazards so there is no surprise that they head straight back there as soon as you hit them.

Fortunately Deuce, the same affliction is not found in tatty old golf balls that I recover from the rough at our course - especially the ones that have been there for years and have been chewed by the foxes. I will be pleased to help improve your game by swapping some of your brand new Nikes for some of the auld tatties in my golf bag when we meet. They've never been near a lake in their life so you should be safe!

Cheers

Hey thats a deal doggie.

You can have all my Nikes for your old Molitors, Comandos and Dunlop 65's I would prefer them anyways ;D

Hell! Doggie hitting into the North sea, hope it wasn't from the eden course if so that is some hit, you should be able to take on Dad and Big Dick Swinger for the longest drive.  :)

Doggie, which course at St. Andrews were you playing at the time? I've played the Old, Eden, New and Jubilee. (Hated the Jubilee but liked the Eden and the New).

I used to have a wild hook at times. It was so bad that with a very strong left to right wind, I could aim over the gorse on the right and end up out of bounds on the left.  ;D ;D ;D

Then on the way back in with a fairway at least 60 to 70 yards wide, I could aim well over the gorse on the right and still end up out of bounds on the left.  ;D ;D ;D

As Carlsburg can attest I have had my share of water balls.  The 1st round I played in Thailand was at Lam Chebang with him.  I had 12 balls at the 1st tee and ended up buying anything 6 pack at one of the drink stops I was loosing so many.  Towards the end Ben got the two caddies to wave at me as I was going to the tee and when I asked what that was all about they all said togeather, bye-bye ball,  and I plunked that one in too.

I don't think they were Nike's though Ian.

Have any of you Scotsmen played the course at Nairn?  It was the only course I played while touring Scotland.  That was 10 years ago.  Beautiful and dramatic links along the water.  I recall taking shelter several times during the hailstorms.  Stones almost as big as the golf balls.  And then of course there is the gorse.  ugh.

Have never played in Thailand.  Looking forward to the event.

I hit the North Sea from the long par 3 on the New Course - I think it is the ninth. I normally have a wicked slice so I aimed well left with a 3 wood towards the estuary to compensate for the slice and the wind. I hit the bastard as straight  as an arrow for the only time in the round!

I like the New Course for the variety of holes - it can be a bitch when the wind is blowing!

Cheers

I think the coolest part of golf in LOS is  the caddies.  If you get one that is fun, the whole day is better.  And  for you with dirty minds,  I simply mean one who can kid around and maybe tickle a bit.  Nothing untoward.  I save that stuff for professionals.  8)

Hi Saigon

Glad you can join in - I will add you to the USA team when I publish the next update.

I forget the tee colour but it was the middle tees - would that be the yellows?

I look forward to meeting you.

To all RideHer Cup Entrants

I am creating a mailing list for all the entrants so that I can keep you all informed as the date of the event approaches.

I would appreciate an IM from each of you giving me your handicap and e-mail address so that I can enter these on the spreadsheet. I will then distribute the spreadsheet to all the entrants as long as I have your permission to send out your e-mail address. If you do not want to have your e-mail address on the distribution list, please let me know and I will send your updates confidentially.

I hope that you will all agree to being added to the distribution list as this makes life easier for me and you will be able to exchange mails with each other.

No he didnt,

Damn Gammon, you hit one moterbiker and all of a sudden you can't play, is that how it is... okay there was that near miss of the jogger last week and the close call with the group of bystanders behind the trees (I never knew they were there honest), but other than that... ohh wait I forgot about the guy at the drinving range... never mind.

Hmm as to putting your balls in the water, well it is cooling but not to be recommended.  Green Valley course has much less water than Khao Kheo and should favour you guys that use water attracted Nike and similar balls.  I must confess to recently starting and finishing my 18 holes at Green Valley with the same ball  :o

Just brought 12 new Wilson Staff distance balls for 399 baht at Big C, a good price as normally 1799 baht.  These seem only slightly proned to taking a bath so I can recommend them.

Does anyone know where can I buy a used set of clubs or is there a place you can buy reasonably good quality new club [smiley=grin.gif] CHEAP!  I was thinking I would buy a set of clubs and just leave them in Pattaya so I didn't have to haul them back and forth on the plane and then from Bangkok to Pattaya and back again home to the USA.

Maybe someone like Ben, Pete, doggie, or anyone could give me some ideas on prices there (new clubs or good quality used ones).  Renting gets a little expensive when your there for 30 days.  Most of the rental clubs are beat up pretty bad as well as not being too good to begin with from what I've seen on my past trips.  Thanks in advance for any replies.

53 days 16 hrs 55 mins to wheels up and back to Pattaya, Thailand and the LOS.

ff29,

Not sure about used but there are quite a few places that sell some decent looking knockoffs.  I got a "copy" set of Callaway VFT's a few years back and like them just fine (there was that motorcycle incedent though).   I forget how much I paid but it was a good deal as I got my irons, woods, a putter and a real ogio carry bag in the deal as well.  I switched the shafts to steel after a few trips because I was breaking the graphite shafts they came with but ymmv.

If you want authentic try the sports store in Big C (they have sales on and off from what Ben has told me) and the Golf store off Thepasit Road and Sukumvit in the outlet mall (I think its an outlet mall).

Email me if you want more info on where I got mine, I'm pretty sure the guy is still there, but again I forgot the price, sorry.

Try Pattaya City Golf shop on Third Road up near the Pattaya Driving Range and towards the North Road end.  They are authorised dealers for many well known makes and do have good sakle offers on as well.  Copy clubs can sometimes be okay but the ones I have seen are poor performers compared to their genuine brothers.

On the balls front I today saw some Nike good quality lake balls for sale at a Golf Ball store near to Burupha Course and I checked the price at 500 baht for 20 balls and all look well polished and cared for by the local caddies  ;D

I bought a set of "real" MacGregor clubs with bag and putter for 30,000. The knock off's can be bought for about 25,000. It depends on what kind of clubs you want. Most likely you can buy used here in the US cheaper and just leave them in Pattaya after your next trip there.

Generally golf gear here is only slightly cheaper than in the UK and that is probably because the tax here is 7% rather than 17.5% in the UK.

I did hear of a Callaway full set of VFT irons, ERC Driver, two fairway woods, an Odyssey two ball putter and a Callaway bag for 30,000 baht and genuine too but I cannot be sure of there source.  It was from a guy I sometimes see at some golf matches here so take it or leave it as true or not.  I am happy with my set of Hawkeyes  so I was not interested.

Hi Guys,

Thanks RobertCC and RayW for all the helpful hints on the golf club question.  I think I can maybe buy them cheaper here in the USA and just leave them in someplace in Pattaya.  Isn't it strange that you can have clubs made in Asia, shipped to the USA, and buy them cheaper than where their made.  Go figure??  I will be going up to Third Road to check out that golf shop, RayW.  Just love browsing around where they sell golf equipment.  Of course I love browsing and looking at the equipment at the FLB more. . . and it's cheaper buying "IT" in Pattaya than buying it in here the USA.

Thanks again for the information.  See you in Pattaya and at the FLB and. . .

Dam it Ray! Throw the bloody things away or give them to Grendal.

The only reason they are on sale is because they find water so easy  ;D ;D ;D

Look for Maxflies or Titliest anything but Nikes, unless you give them to the US team as presents  :o

Deuce good point mate.  US team members please note I will get yu all some lovely Nike lake balls at a nice price too  ;D

As to the lack of Europeans well I am sorry to have to  say it but I think it is due to the high cost of the event.  Most Europeans are more strapped for cash and more careful about how much they spend than their American counterparts.  I am sure this is a major reason for the imbalance, especially when you consider that their are at least twice as many European members here than Americans.

So a question. How many Europeans golfers here would have signed up by now if the price was more like 2000  Baht  even if it didn't include Caddy tips, Lady drinks at the party, and Buggies which not everyone wants anyway ??
