Well its a well trodden path you choose and I am sure you will get lots of first hand advice/sad stories etc but from a frequent visitors point of view my opinnion would be similar to that of ygm std's look after your money and dont risk it ! I think that things have slowed up greatly in not only Thailand but the likes of Angeles city also. This can be heard and read on a daily basis on the net and from mongers returning. Bargain Flights are hard to come by now a days and the average cost to fly to thailand from say the uk is appx £500 whereas a couple of years back it could have been as cheap as 330. The pound to Bhat rate is showing no great signs of improving and that is one of if not the main factor in less going there. we are well I know I am sadly missing the days of 70 bhat to the pound and the 450 flight and I was having a ball and not counting the pennies and going where the bargain booze is. In my opinnion for what its worth its not a good time for you adventure, for certain you will have an abundance of choice in bars for rent, saying that if you do decide to go ahead the best of luck to you and I hope you do well.

Hey, was it you who messed up Egypt? :devil

If you have the money to lose, it is up to you.

Karaoke bars are normally run (badly) by Thais....

They start wailing at midnight and shooting at 3am.

You have supplied little information about yourself but if you have done 15 years in Egypt (why there?) I expect not a youngster.

Personally I would advise you against it, very few bars are successes here, particularly in the current climate, where there are still plenty of tourists, but not many who use the bars.

I would presume that if its a karaoke bar then you are looking at attracting a thai crowd? too many other entertainment options here for western tourists and ex-pats to be interested in yet another karaoke bar. Not the sort of clientelle that I would want to be hanging around with at 2am, expecially if you dont speak pretty fluent thai.

The beer bars here are deathly quiet at the moment, places I regularly go to have 30-50% closed, which is not unusual in the slow season. It sounds like you have made up your mind and you obviously won't take any advice offered so not much point in posting really..!!

Please let us know how you go and where to send the flowers or get well card too. Wish you luck tho and I do hope you have lots of money behind you to carry you through the slow times.

Thank you both very much for your advise and i have listened the bar would not be a thai karaoke and i would only be having karaoke nights 2 times a week so as to keep it interesting and fun i also cant stand listening to thais wailing at 2 am i have not totally made my mind up and i certainly will not lose a fortune only what i can afford to lose but thanks for the advise and it is taken on board.

You managed to say in a few words what I believe is on many peoples minds. Well said and perhaps this might make sense to a number of people on a number of threads!

Here is my advice, feel free to ignore it.

Forget all your experience in the west, Thailand is totally different. Come and live here for a year or two and learn how things work. Also unless you have a decent amount of money to invest in a bar then forget it, a cheap bar is cheap for a reason.

How many times have you been to Thailand, can you speak Thai and how much are you thinking of investing and where? Answer these questions for a more details reply.
