Asia's largest Disco

Asia's largest Disco, located at an area formerly known as Soho Square, needs some investors.

If you are a citizen from Iran or from any other Arab country you are invited cordially to invest in that record breaking project...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As mentioned last month, we couldn't spot any construction workers at the site for many months. But the situation will change with new money - perhaps

What do you base that on? It's an investment opportunity closed to anyone but Iranians and Arabs, but it's a big market, and growing.

I'd be interested to read your take on this growing market.

Do you see this growing market as a good thing for the city and Walking Street? How big will the market grow? ...and... will niteclubs like FLB, Secrets, TQ and the Blues Factory have to adapt to this growing market in order to prosper in the future?

This is a second coming. The Arabs were a HUGE market in Pattaya in the 1980s, and then the Saudis banned travel to Thailand. Back then, there was co-existence, much like on lower Sukhumvit in Bangkok. I don't even recall any run-ins or battles, let alone riots. There were Arab bars, there were non-Arab bars, pretty much. Even if they were geographically next to each other, there was no big deal about it. The discos were interesting - they went back and forth. The first big mostly-Arab disco was the Marine, and then it became un-Arab again.

Thais don't get uptight about this kind of thing. They note it, comment on it, adjust as necessary.

I think you might be thinking of a gogo owner called "The Arab". There are no arabs to speak of on Soi Cowboy...mostly Japanese in the better bars.

No I'm talking about this Arab chappy who's buying up all of Soi Cowboy. Even old Stickman has been covering his exploits.

Yeah, well he might be buying places (6 gogos at last count), and he might be called "The Arab", but that doesn't mean his customers are Arab, does it?

And, from what I have heard, he's not even an Arab. I seem to recall he's Iranian, but that is really not the point. Arabs are not present on Soi Cowboy in any numbers.

It's a smartphone marketed and sold by Google. Not a big deal, it's just a phone running the Android operating system.

Hard to believe that was written by anyone with ANY knowledge of Middle Eastern affairs. Iran is NOT an Arab country, and they would be deeply offended to be called such. They think they are way better than that. Had it said Arab or Persian country, then okay. Calling them Arab's is probably not the best way to get them to part with their money.

get used to it guys. The time for whitey domination is coming to an end.

most white societies are run under democracy- a system which has more and more flaws each day as being POPULAR in politics exceeds the need to be competant.

democracies are failing and are getting poorer.Pehaps not in macro terms but in micro terms, individual by individual its happening.Exchange rates of traditional visitors to LOS have been going south for a while.with the exception of the mighty aussie dollar.

democratic govt cannot stop spending on the welfare system. In the USA 50% !!! of the population s relaiant on the govt for the major part of its income. In australia its about 37% but rising. Taxes from the workers are need to fund welfare.Thats your working dollars guys.

non democratic countries suffer not such dilemmas. Those countries have rising populations of people with rising incomes. Sheer weight of number means than in 10 years from now it will be a case of " spot the white guy " all over thailand.

we will be replaced by arabs, indians and the real tsunami to yet arrive- the chinese. There are 24 million excess males of marrying age in china.Yes 24 million. You think once they get a whiff of freedom and pussy in thailand they are going to ignore it? A soon as they can afford the airfares they will invade the joint, and then its all over,it will NEVER be the same.

So guys, enjoy it while you can, it will be all gone faster than you think.

Could you please provide some type of fact with that comment or is it IMHO...?

the exact %%%% GREG B doesn't really matter. What matters is the trend and the fact that more and more of we westerners are getting some kind of govt handout.

Unemployment is USA is just shy of 10%.Thats say 30 million adults plus their dependants. If each one had say just 1 dependant thats 20% of the total population.Add in all the other kinds of benefits and you can easily arrive at towards the 50%.

You can argue its 48%, 45% whatever, but thats not really the point.

Here in aust we were up to 44% a few years ago but currently we are at 37% due to the mining boom. However that %%% has once again started to rise as the thirst for govt spending increases and they find new ways to make more ppl govt dependant.

democrtatic economies are drowning under welfare, check out greece for example. Non democracies have no such welfare state.Their numbers and growing wealth will squeeze us out of p4p over time. :hairout

No, and no. You're not doing statistics, but damned lies.

So far as the Americans getting handouts, the number matters, of course it does. You made it matter by bringing in a comparison. I think you're very confused. I believe somewhere around 50 per cent of, er, taxpayers in the US don't pay net income taxes. That may be what you're referring to.

And 10 per cent unemployment in a country of 300 million people is a LOT less than 30 million - WAY less.
