One of the many things that i enjoy when i`m in Pattaya is buying loads of lovely fake gear. I have noticed over the last couple of months there have been signifcant raids carried out mike shopping mall and fake watch vendors arrested and now the supposed supplier of many vendors in Patts has been taken into custody. Could this really mean the end of the shoppers paradise I have come to love ?? :(

In a word.......YES !!!!

When i started coming to Pattaya in the late 80's, you couldn't walk down Beach Road for stalls selling all the fake gear, with all manner of nationalities blocking the pavement, bartering with the vendors. Even Walking Street when it came alive during the night hours had stalls piled up high with the likes of Polo shirts, designer jeans, ladies handbags, fake sunglasses, watches...you name it, it was for sale openly.

NOW look at it. Apart from a few places that mix a few copies in with the crap, and those where the owners lead you into the back room out of sight, you hardly see anything fake on open sale. Even most of the food stalls have gone

You could buy American sourced Marlboro, Camel, and other brands......no more, though

Wait until they crack down on the ED pills !!!!!

I could never understand the appeal of fake crap, since if you can afford it then buy the real thing. If you can't you friends know it so you look like a poseur with obvious fake crap. And most of it is crap quality as well so you get mediocre wear and tear. So less crap for sale is a good thing.

Just another symptom of Pattaya succumbing to the mores and pressures from the West

And all the usual 'so long as theres a soi 6' blah blahs from turkeys looking forward to Christmas only serve to detract from the inevitable

Any company that pays a Cambodian person a dollar a day and then ships a shirt to New York to flog for over a hundred bucks can get fucked and deserves to have copyright infringed. Abercrombie and Fitch for starters. I don't see the need to pay a fortune to advertise their product. If is is a knockoff and looks crap and it damages the brand even better.

Yeah, and those banks... the interest they charge and the loans they turn down, the baxtards deserve to get robbed at gunpoint and shot if they won't hand over the money quickly. And those uneducated cows in the bars, all decked out showing their legs and bazooms, over-charging for short times, bitxches deserve to get raped.

You can justify anything. People including Abercrombie shop owners don't DESERVE any such thing as you claim.

There are going to have to be a lot more symptoms before the end of paradise. This was a few weeks ago:

The US Trade Representative once again has put Thailand on its list of top pirates of intellectual property, known as the Priority Watch List.

"Piracy and counterfeiting, including illegal downloading of pirated works from the Internet, and the theft of cable and satellite signals, remain rampant in Thailand," the report claimed.

Who cares about being on the 'US Trade Representative's' priority watch list.

Money grubbing Thai politicos that's who....hence the action against copy goods over the years.

It proves or rather shows very strongly that there is lots of stuff for sale, and that there is every expectation in all quarters that it will still be flowing in a year from now.

So...you believe that arresting a few vendors selling counterfeit goods will end the business in Pattaya? That's like saying the arrest of a few drug dealers will end the drug trade. Ain't gonna happen.

Besides, some of those so-called counterfeit goods are pretty good stuff. Some are simply overruns that were done on purpose to fuel the street trade. Frankly, I feel most of the brand name overpriced stuff is a rip-off in the first place. The copies I see are quality made. I rarely see crap copies.

Basically I don't like logos. If I can find a shirt with no logo at all I am happy. As it is, I have several well made shirts with small logos that I can live with simply because they are good quality. And they probably are copies. I really don't care.

The US Trade Representative can kiss my spotty white arse. This is Thailand NOT the USA moon

Paps, that is really a moment of swoosh.

Look. The OP asks if the street supplies are going to dry up tomorrow. I said "no". To support my "no" I quoted a very interested party who also says "no".

You cam still see fake football tops everywhere. I was quite impressed that a shop on Second Rd had a copy of the new Man U away top last month and it was officially unveiled today. The real shop in Big C didn't have it.

I now see that Made In Thailand market has gone..with a proposed more "upmarket" shopping mall to be built on its old site, apparently to satisfy the purchasing requirements of the ruskies. I have to say that on my last visit to Patts(December 10), the place was wall to wall Russian and Indian, which did spoil my trip to a certain extent. Pattaya is definitely changing, wether for the better or not can only be judged by you guys that live there but I will certainly be keeping an open mind when considering where in the world to spend my hard earned.
