Another Premiership season about to get under way. Manchester City didn’t quite make it for me last season, after Chelsea won for me the previous year. Manchester United won well in the end and have added some new players who should strengthen their team. However Scholes has retired and Giggs can’t be getting any better at his age.

King Kenny is back at Liverpool and he seems very popular with the pundits, so he should get some time to sort out a team which has underperformed for some time. He seems to be intent on buying British players, which I feel may help him in dealings with referees. Arsenal look likely to lose Fabregas, and possibly Nasri. They should have the money to replace them with good players . They seem to lack a few scrappers when the going gets tough and could struggle to stay in the top 4. Tottenham failed to stay in the top 4 after their Champions League commitments and are another London team who may struggle to make the top 4.

Chelsea seem the best London team again and have a new manager, Villas Boas, who will be under the spotlight. He could prove as good as Mourinho, but with a more attractive football style. He could also be a flop! QPR, Norwich, and Swansea are the newcomers and I hope their supporters enjoy their time in the Premiership. None of them seem to be spending too much on new players. The odds on them all surviving are, I’d say, big.

Man City seem set to lose Tevez, but have signed Aguero who should do a good job. Mancini has had more experience in England, and with all the money behind him City may recover my losses from last year.

Whoever you support , I hope you enjoy the season. I know it’s a big business now, but it also can be a great sport sometimes.

Whats all the hype about?.   If you want to see real football teams play then check out great teams like Bayern Munich or Barcelona

Blackburn can. I thought it was hilarious, coming a few minutes after Sir Alex said he just wants to hang around another three years.   .

Hi,

Aguero has a splendid start to his career in the Prem. None of the usual top 4 impress in their games. Norwich grap a good away point.

My bet is its not going BIRMINGHAM CITY :crying: :crying: :crying:

Hi,

Hughton did a good job at the Toon so might get them back up. Stranger things have happened.

Same team that always wins it lol, United. :thumbup

Chelsea are off to a bad start.

Arsenal are in a bit of disarray and have a lot of injuries and suspensions. Forget them.

Nobody else worth mentioning!

Chelsea need a huge squad as this new manger is teaching them the Porto way, leave your foot there and dive at every opportunity.

After reading many footie post i am not on my own on this one,a huge majority have said they were diving all over the place for fouls and penalties on Sunday

Hi,

Rooney and Gerrard dive as much as anybody but they are English. If Man Utd had been playing Stoke there would have been penalties for holding in the area. Sky would show it again and again and say "yes penalty Rooney was being held in the area".

That's a record, even for you mate! 9 posts in of the new season and already your claiming it's biased lol. Pity you refuse to debate it or tell us when the fix went in! Pre Munich disaster , or maybe one day they decided to stop letting Liverpool win so many English titles and started looking to put the fix in for somebody else. And obviously put the fix in for Chelsea for a few years! :hairout

Hi,

Murdoch and his minions have been accused of much worse in the last few months despite a cover up. Have you been reading any papers or watching TV ?

So you are saying. News International tapped phones.....therefore Man U have match fixed their way to 19 league titles and 3 european cups and 11 FA cups. :banghead I disagree mate. That sounds bonkers imho. I have seen them play and they are usually the best over a season and most pundits ,if not all, agree that ManU have been the best team for years.

You didn't answer mate. When did Liverpool stop match fixing and Man U start? And what happened in the years Arsenal and Chelsea won?

Hi,

I think the whole culture of football in England changed with the dawn of the Premiership/Sky era. Money and agents became the dominant forces. Other teams can win sometimes but how many times do Man Utd get dodgy decisions/penalties when they look in trouble in a game ? I reckon for another team to win the Prem they need to be about 10 points better than Man Utd. The era when Clough could go to Derby or Nottingham and win the big one are over. Who wants Wigan to win it when they have no global following? Money and International sales of the "product" are the main drivers.

Its been proven when small clubs like Chelsea can buy success and indeed as Blackburn did, we will see the same with Man City.

Man Utd I admire as they realised the potential in the global market the Korean lad who plays has done well but he has earnt them more than his wages.

But the game is shot really as only the richest clubs can compete due to salaries, shame really but thats the way sport and football has gone, in the EPL there is mismatch after mismatch with one team trying to break the other down.

When you look at the likes of Man Citys and Chelseas bench and see their reserves are better than the other teams players the result is almost a forgone conclusion, oity really as the contest is over.

The old prawn sandwich brigade and the 300 mile away fan with no link are easily pleased :) Glory hunters, watch all the Man City fans come out :)

This is the sort of thing you might, repeat MIGHT be able to prove with statistics. But you make no attempt to SHOW this is true, you state it as a fact. And almost no one accepts your FACT.

Will you try to actually prove this astounding and incredible statement? Or will you simply continue for another dreary season to insist that everyone accepts your worldview and your account?

I was under the impression he said 'I think' :clueless

The second sentence might have been better written that MU will play for the penalty... when perhaps behind.

No great surprise for me there. No need for googly. No need to be astounded, stop playing to the crowd Joe, rolling around grasping your shin like that.

Very good jacko, very good indeed. I'll leap back up and run back on the attack.

The problem is that wac insists it's a unique thing. Man U get the late calls, previously it was Liverpool. Is there ANYTHING that backs that up? I don't doubt for a second ManU play for the penalty in some late circumstances, sometimes (or often if you prefer). What I do definitely doubt, and would like to be shown, is that only Man U are successful at it. I personally ALSO doubt that wac or anyone else can show any such thing. I don't mind wac having a private believe system, I strongly believe in freedom of religion. But he's a missionary, and that means he infringes on MY freedom about it. So it's a fair challenge that he show the power of his god here and I think his god is a powerless one.

No no no, you are meant to struggle to your feet, then limp in an exagerrated fashion for 20 paces, then run off as if nothing happened!

I would like to think UK refs are unbiased, or if they are, that like the average UK male, they are biased AGAINST MU. I do believe they fear making strong reaction to big-name player's misdemeanors, in the end the game must go on. But these incidents are relatively few and that googled stats likely have little meaning. Let the game go on, but for me, it will on average, not be dull...

The whole penalty argument is a fiction of the imagination of ManU haters - all the stats confirm that, overall, they aren't awarded more penalties than the rest of the Premiership teams. They do miss/have saved a higher number than any other team though.

Last season's penalty "table", when they were awarded fewer penalties than any of the Premiership's other top 6 finishers, is pretty much in line for for ManU's "performance" over the last 12 years or so.

The biggest teams at the time always get the better decisions, many reasons I watched Arsenal as a season ticket for many years and I cringed when I saw the likes of Paul Durkin speak to the Roy Keanes and Dennis Bergkamp his attitude was different to less well known players, to say refs are not influenced and have favourites is not in question they are human.

Durkin who by the way went to the World Cup was the worst ref I had seen in my life, like a poor mod on an internet forum they are cringeworthy.

Even the selection of refs, a few years ago when Chelsea played Barca in the Euro semi final they gave the second leg to a guy who had done a handfull of games, then when he never gave 4 penalties it was stated "He is inexperienced" it was a fix no doubt wont be th 1st or the last. A casino wins money in the UK with one green 3% a few decisions in a game a few free kicks given the wrong way or corners will alter the result.

Bent refs, influnced refs, weak refs many reasons but it does happen time and time again.

Hi,

I have my own opinions and others are entitled to theirs. Stats can't prove anything in this case anyway. It's not how many decisons are awarded as whenthey are awarded is the critical thing. Teams may get a penalty when they are 4-0 down which makes no effect on the end result. For instance Man Utd were in trouble against Aston Villa a few seasons ago and a few very questionable decisons went their way. It happens so often that is not even worth arguing about.
