Maybe I'm becoming a feminist

Recommended Posts

I was not a fan of ping pong balls when they started appearing in the gogos. I thought it was demeaning for the girls to fight to get hold of them. My mind was changed when a girl assured me that the girls enjoyed them as a bit of fun and as a very useful source of some income at times when, for example, they are unwell.

Last evening I went to upstairs at Baccara and the evening before to Angelwitch. At both places there were small groups of Asians who were almost certainly Japanese. I'm sure we have all seen them buy multi-baskets of ping pong balls and throw fist fulls of 20 Baht notes, but I had never seen it done on the scale I saw the last two evenings. It reminded me of going to Underwater World and seeing the divers go into the water with buckets of food to feed the sharks, turtles etc.

The worst point was at Baccara when the girls were almost begging the Japs to give them more notes and the Japs refused unless the girls walked around in a circle like schoolchildren in a playground. Needless to say the girls obliged.

I thought the girls were stripped of their dignity, and the Japs looked complete arseholes - no credit to anyone concerned.

And what is the effect on us? The amount the girls are able to get without moving from the bar must push up ST and LT prices. And if the girls are treated with such disrespect, it would hardly be surprising if they treat their customers the same way.

As someone else asked it's demeaning to chase ping pong balls with a groups of friends giggling and having fun but it's not having to sit on someone's lap and being groped?

In essence your gripe is that this practice is causing you to pay more for a ST/LT. Because the girl has a choice of earning money without her having to well, spread her legs in a "demeaning" way.

Good point. I'm not a fan of throwing ping pong balls because I think it is demeaning for the thrower, not the girls who chase the balls.

But it's all pretty harmless and there's no question that nearly all the girls think it's fun. I don't believe it has any effect on either S/T or L/T prices since the scale of compensation is so vastly different.

I can't see myself tossing ping pong balls or handfuls of notes to the girls, but that's a matter of personal style and preference. But if any customer, farang or Asian, thinks it's fun and the girls enjoy it, who really loses?

Always find it amusing people coming to Pattaya complaining about this and that.

Reminds me of someone who goes to a fairground, loving the rollercoaster and thinking none of the other activities/side shows should exist.

Truth is if the fairground had only the rollercoaster and none of the other attractions the "vibe" of the fairground would not exist.

I like to see the girls earning money, it's food on the table next day.

I'm a self confessed paper-money-garter-belt-stufferer and enjoy doing it. :party

In any case, I find my job cleaning homes for widows demeaning. :whistling:

:clueless Chasing ping pong balls is demeaning but paying ladies for sex is not? :clueless I like the ping pong ball thing, JMHO :chogdee

I’ve never regarded paying for sex as demeaning. It’s a much used cliché on this board that all men pay for sex in one way or another. I’m merely paying for a service someone is selling. What’s demeaning in that?

I don't believe it has any effect on either S/T or L/T prices since the scale of compensation is so vastly different.

In essence your gripe is that this practice is causing you to pay more for a ST/LT. Because the girl has a choice of earning money without her having to well, spread her legs in a "demeaning" way.

I don’t have a “gripe” about it but for sure a lot of ladies earn such amounts in the bar that to make it worthwhile for them to leave, ST and LT prices have gone up.

Suggest your take your Western morality, ideals and judgmental attitude and check them at the airport when you arrive. You can pick them up when you leave.

My morality is my own – not Western, not Asian. I have no religious beliefs - I live according to my morality. It does not and will not change at the airport.

I guess guys like you just don't get it or never will. Don't come to Thailand and try to put your morals on to some one else. Why is it so demeaning? They’re just trying to make money like the rest of the world. These Issan ladies come from a very poor region and dirt poor families. Thailand has no jobs for them and little education, so one ping pong ball or 20 baht could be their only meal of the day. If you want to save them then why don't you go into the bars and give all the girls 1000 baht each.

We all try to impose our morality on other people; why else do we want the jet ski scam stopped, to have equal prices for Thais and falangs, etc.

I take your point about the plight of some (but not all) of the girls, and I made the same point in my OP about how useful some ping pong ball money can be sometimes. As I said in the OP, I am not against ping pong balls as such. What I did not like was the attitude that the Japs had to the girls.

what’s more dignified, jumping for ping pong balls, or smiling while some drunk tries to fist you ?

Yes it’s so demeaning, much more job satisfaction and pride in sucking an old fat bloke off. :whistling:

If a girl has some drunk trying to fist her, she can walk away. Furthermore, just like “sucking an old fat bloke off”, it will be done in relative privacy. My problem was with the attitude of the Japs, which is very well explained in the post (copied below) by kikc69, and I was sorry that the girls pandered to the Japs.

It is more of a cultural look at the way the Asian men look at the woman versus others.

Just my humble opinion but looking at the Asians, (Korean, Japanese) they throw the balls and money to inflate their ego and idea of self importance. To them and their culture looking rich and flaunting their wealth makes them a better more important person.

You also see it in their XXX movies, where most of them depict the girl as being a student, or forced into acts which the girl acts like she does not want to perform. Also the girls wimpering in the Japanese movies is a huge turnoff for me but seems to be what the men expect from the girl.

These are just my opinions but after having lived many years in Asia I think it comes down to the male needed to show that he is dominant and one way to do that is by showing of for his fellow monger friends.

I think you have hit the nail squarely on the head. You have had your brain turned to mush by 20 years of feminist propaganda. In my opinion, these girls don't feel the least bit demeaned by this little bit of fun. I've always been amazed by how Thai people in general (and Thai girls in particular) have absolutely no sense of shame when it comes to their sexuality (as opposed to western women, and particularly American women). This is something that should be celebrated. So stop projecting your own sense of shame onto these wonderful girls. Enjoy them for what they are!

They could walk away in both scenarios ,

but need or greed stops them .

NO.

In terms of groups of men peer pressure tends to stop somebody walking away.

In terms of the girls the Mamasan tends to stop them walking away...

So you think that no improvements should be made; that bad things should be allowed to fester.

Explains a lot about the state of TQ2.

Interaction and cash ,

isn't that in part of the job description ?

I agree. Although I am not a fan of the ping pong balls being thrown about in go go bars and find it degrading it's a waste of time being philosophical here. These girls are prostitutes at the end of the day and most nights they will be having sex with strangers in a hotel somewhere. They aren't forced into doing anything they don't want to which is the most important thing here.

Maybe they should ban all Japanese from gogos as their "attitude " isn't up to yours!!! :banghead The girls would probably be happier with zero baht and love Brits over the Japansese anyway
