Not being a Marine Biologist, I'll take a wild guess and say it's the colour.

I have seen these cookers for sale in BigC and Tescos

I don't know about that, Mick. I had to have mine shipped from Australia, but that was several years ago. I've yet to see one sold in Thailand. The one we have is our main cooking accessory for meats.

I love the stuff...let's keep it.

I always thought UK bacon (or Danish perhaps) was the best of both worlds. A bit of USA streaky and a bit of Canadian back.

I always eat the bit that comes wrapped around a Mignon steak.....yummy.

Medallions are nice but I like the full Rasher.

And what about the fucking Sausages? I used to eat trhose Thai sausages that they fill with rice? You know the ones. They drive around selling them. Fucking horrible. Look good when you're pissed but you might as well eat the plastic tray as far as taste goes..

Paps ,you just got to go to Carrefore on Central rd they have some excellent Thai sausages that they will even cook for you right there on the counter. They are not the same as UK sausages but they are an acceptable alternative with no rice that I could discern.

Carrefour is now BigC Extra and I haven't seen the Northern Sausages for sale there for a while....

The best are the Chiangmai area ones 'sai hua' (pictured)...I love these.... the others with a lot of rice are Issarn style.

the pic from MM is back bacon very nice but you cant make it crispy ,for that you need streaky its from the belly

and is attached to the thin end of the back bacon, the back is also good in club sandwiches and the good old bacon sarny.

Lidle do a ok smoked streaky not oversalted.

Nice pic Jacko, thanks for posting it.

I dunno........ I've seen those curly wurly sausages many times but they remind me of dog's turds. I guess I've got a mental block of some sort. Even if I got past the idea that they look like dog turds, they just don't look appetising.

They look like Frankfurters or the kind of shite they put in American Hotdogs?

Do you remember the Hotdogs they used to sell at Odeon Cinemas back in the day? Fucking horrible things. Hotdog, stale bread bun and some mustard and ketchup. Yuck. How do people eat that shit?

I've never been with a TG that wanted any. Is it just for the Tourists?

The streaky bacon has to be grilled until it's crispy. In Pattaya they must fry it in oil? It's soggy and fucking horrible. Even when it's crispy it's shite.

Back bacon is the only bacon.

Don't forget the HP Sauce and a splash of malt vinegar.

Is this going to be another "tinned red salmon" thread?

Maybe later.

After years of scouring the tinned fish shelves at Mister JJ and Jonny's Super Market here in AC, I stumbled across this..........

Not Red but it's a start.

Do they sell can openers? Well yes they do but that's another story, LOL.

I reckon in about another year or so they will get stock with the rip off Lids and I'll get to see what this tastes like :banghead

Best breakfast with real bacon in Pattaya in my experience was at the Garden Hut Restaurant next to the Hillside Hotel (opposite Pattaya Hill Resort).

Haven't been for a while but it was exceptional.

I was mooching around in BigC Xtra today...really dumb idea on Chinese New Years day let me tell you.

But they seemed to have a good selection of bacon.

You can get grills of what seem to be similar style in the big stores but I've sure never seen a Foreman on sale in Thailand. How good the wannabes are, I also do not know -- but if "desperate times.... etc" call, have a look at Tesco or similar.

I bought a "similar" grill...a Philips gadget that had the grill and various attachments. It basically boiled the meat rather than grilling.

Offhand, without making a study of it, I'd say the key to the Foreman grill is mainly the slanted surface that allows the juices to drain and the meat to cook without stewing in its juice.

I will go so far as to say, the GF grill has no peers, so why bother looking for one?

I used to have an "air grill". It was about the same size as a decent circular barbecue. Really simple concept, just circulated hot air around which grilled whatever you put in it. Really quick and any fat dripped into a tray at the bottom.

That sounds like a good solution to the juice problem.
