Gatwick or Heathrow

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Gatwick airport is about 45 mins from my house.I can get an indirect flight to LOS With a 2/3 hour stopover in dubia.cost £540-£580

Or i can get a direct flight from heathrow from my house it would take at least 3 to 4 hours. Cost of flight is about £540-to £580

What i would like to ask would i be better of flyig out of Heathrow? As once i'm at the airport direct flight. no hassle of a stopover but would have to put up with the greaf of travling a cross london witch can be a pain

.Or gatwick no hassel getting there. but will have to put up with a stopover 2/3 HOURS.

I have been told that flying indirect makes jet lag worse.I get jetlag real bad

I know i am luky to have such an easy choice to make.As most BM'S have to travel miles to the airport

But i cannot make my mind up.t

Advice would realy be helpfull

Thanks in advance.

Im south of london Heathrow is west

Traveling a cross london is a nightmare

Its not the distance but trafic and the tube system is a nightmare to use.

Maybe a londoner finds it ok i'm not and only go to london if i have to

Hence my ?

Witch is worse travling through london or a stopover in Dubia?

In the middle of winter I avoid Gatwick and its one runway. Otherwise, I find it just as convenient from London as Heathrow if you are able to take the Gatwick Express rail.

Starting a long journey with an arduous one dragging suitcases around in crowds is not my way to go.

Sounds like your main concern is transit.

Double check the waiting time in Dubai, anything over 2.5 hours is going to get boring.

If you smoke, you might well be glad of the break.

Stretching your legs after 6-7 hours is also good.

A better duty free selection.

Not sure what time you would be trying to traverse London but as you say, sometimes it is a nightmare.

I would go to Gatwick....personally I fly from Manchester and prefer to have a change of flight anywhere but LHR, it is a shit airport, (T5 is okay).

As I personally like a break halfway I would suggest the Gatwick departure.....

Assuming you're on Emirates enjoy the brief transit in Dubai.

That would be my choice. You're going to lose time either travelling to Heathrow on dirty crowded trains, or on your stopover in a clean modern airport. I also find that with a break I arrive much more relaxed.

I would go gatwick, trip seems to be shorter to me for some reason when I have a break midway. There are worst airports than DXB to spend a few hours in.

Plus I hate Heathrow with a passion, although I have to transit the hole next weekend, not through choice though.

Regards

Yeah just keep to one beer or you'll lose all your saving at Dubai prices.....

I can remember about 7 dollars a pint, 20 years ago so christ knows what it is today !!

Is it all that much cheaper at Heathrow?

4 quid in Garfunkels in T4 last summer..

So $6.30... the 50p difference per pint should be well covered by not having to traverse London.

It cost me $80 to get from W1 to Heathrow in the summer!

I am almost positive you can get a cheap Train and tube deal from Bexhill to Heathrow the train time would be + 45-50 minutes underground travel. The suggestion about the gatwick -heathrow bus could work out much less time consuming but probably not cheaper.you have to work out what the price will be in total and think is my time and effort worth the money I will save?.Only you can answer that question as only you know how much money you will spend for a little less work ,and only decent research will give you the facts that make that decision possible. You should also check if there is a local firm who do airport runs they would make either journey easier.Ask a local travel agent for details.

I seem to recall excellent bottles of scotch in duty free at Duba being super cheap, perhaps longer than 20 years ago.

They once had to come and get me out of the bar to get me on the plane some 30 years back too.... KLM I think, Melbourne via Columbo...again in Columbo.

But it is nice to have an opportunity to buy a beer in Dubai, at whatever price, than to be refused by BA on the direct flight....because you have had two already!
