Hi!

I`ve read somewhere about not to travel alone to Thailand/Pattaya cause of possible ripoffs/muggings etc.

This is in general good advice in a lot of tourist cities,

but I like to travel this way, and perhaps meet new people at the spot.

How tuff is it really to visit Pattaua alone?

And if so, do you have any sound advice?

Planing on coming in the next few weeks.

Clark

Hey Clark,  Come alone, I did!  I stayed for a month in June without ever being here or knowing anyone.  It was great.  You will not have any trouble, unless you are the kind of person that finds trouble everywhere...Pattaya is great, alone, with a friend , anyway you can get there...just go!

I knew NOTHING about Pattaya before I accessed this site. Visited first time in December. Hit FLB meeting first nite and made friends and found two tour guides. Didn't stay with same guides, but did see friends for breakfasts, etc numerous times during stay.

Need friends? Hit FLB. Also go on OFB prowls if they are at FLB.

Fear of muggings, etc? If a place feels bad? leave. Only falang in bar? Leave. If you wouldn't feel comfortable doing something in your own country, it probably isn't safe doing it in Thailand.

Bring a few dollars and have the time of your life!

Thailand and Pattaya are very safe destinations.  Certainly safer than most large western cities.

When travelling a certain amount of caution is good but you are far less likely to get into trouble in Thailand than say the USA.

I'll happily walk around the back streets of Bangkok or Pattaya on my own at 3 am.  I would not do that in LA or New York or London or Paris or Sydney or Auckland.

I agree with the other posts.  I have been to Thailand five times all by myself and never had a problem.  As mentioned go to FLB and you will make many friends instantly and then go from there.  I have made FLB my home base because Ben, Wee, Moulee, Pete, Ann and all of the staff go out of there way to take care of you.  Just tell them this is your first time and they will answer any questions, give advice and even hook you up with something you will enjoy.  Make it your first stop.  Then go to Misty's and introduce yourself to Andy.  He will change your life in two minutes and make sure his girls fulfill your wildest dreams.  I personally like going there alone because then everything is done on my schedule and not someone elses.  Hope you enjoy your trip and save yourself some time and start planning your second trip.

Gidday Clark.

I've been around the world 3 times, Pattaya 4, Philippines 13, mostly alone.

The only time I been mugged was in a quiet middle class suburb of my city.

So, yes , go, no matter what.

You won't regret it.

Just use common sense.

I almost had my pocket picked on a baht bus one night.

So don't get too drunk and stay alert.

Or find yourself a bodyguard or 4.

There are thousands of lovely young ladies who would love to guard your body long time for a modest fee.  :) :)

Go to the FLB member meetings.

You'll meet people that could become lifelong friends.

(BTW, is your last name Kent? )

chico,  grrrrrrrrrrrruuff :P :P 8)

Clark,

Don't worry about it at all, and you will soon not be alone if you don't want to. I came alone on my first trip almost 3 years ago (which was my first trip out of the country except for Mexico), first day I was there was riding a Baht Bus and started bullshitting with an Aussie guy who just happened to be in that bus and we hung out with each other and various TG's for the next week until he left, sometime during that time we also met another couple guys in FLB who I would also hang out with (one from England and one from Florida). The guy from Florida who is also a board member and I have made 2 subsequent trips back to Pattaya at the same time as each other and each time we meet some great new guys as well, so don't worry about it and just go have fun, I'm sure some guys will be there to kind of show you "the ropes" at first.

Not to mention the great TG's you will meet :)

Another thought... Walking Street is safer as little or no vehicles. Use care when on 2nd Street. Sometimes drunk bike riders suddenly turn in front of you at a shop or side street. The last time this happened (the guy might have been African), :P he missed me by inches had that zombi look on his face.

Clark.. I travel to Mexico regulary by myself and don't really worry. Just be aware of your surroundings, and stay away from places that are too good to be true.

Since most Pattaya visitors are more likely to be robbed at home than in Pattaya, you decrease  the chance of being robbed by vacationing in Pattaya. Yes, I am serious.  After a pleasant vacation in Pattaya I returned to my Virginia USA home this July to find that one of my cars had been stolen.  >:P

My first night in BKK I got off the sky train headed for my Hotel. Someone moved my hotel and I walked what seemed like 30 blocks trying to find it. Didn't have anything to drink ether. Walked down dark streets and was a little worried cause I was carrying a lot of expensive camera equipment. Couldn't find anyone to ask where to I was. Finally found another hotel and got directions. They said I should take a taxi, but I decided to walk so I could find it the next night.

My last night again in Bkk a got a hotel close to the airport. I needed cash and had to walk to an ATM.

The area I had to walk through was very questionable, but when I came back through I pulled out the camera's and no problem.

Just use common sense. Pattaya seemed very safe.

I did have to laugh the first night when I walked into

Boy's Town with the camcorder running and didn't realize it. Got my butt out of there quick... lol...

When I replayed the tape there was this executive looking guy making moves on a T-guy... would have got my butt kicked over a copy of that...

Just be careful, like you would at home.
