The post office EMS is OK. Lots of options but time critical comes at a price.

There is a post here somewhere from a shipping service claiming to charge less than DHL or FedEx directly. I have yet to see any of these storefront services do anything more than charge double but you can ask.

Small Packet rate

Requires you to have an easily openable packet (like a bubble pack with only a couple of staples as closures - or a box with string around it)

With mobile phones in them - Somchai will be pleased :)

I have never used any service other than the Thai EMS. It's expensive too but the service has been fine with no problems. The best thing is that you can send anything from any Thai post office.

At this point I refuse to have anything shipped to my via FedEx or UPS. I am convinced that they are in bed with Thai customs. Some time back, I ordered some vitamins and although I instructed them to ship them via USPS, they sent them FedEx. They taxed the vitamins more than I paid for them. Usually if the items that are shipped via USPS arrive at the Thai post office and are not taxed at all. I did buy a Nolan motorcycle helmet from Singapore and it got taxed but only a few hundred baht. An expensive heavy pressure cooker from Australia was not taxed at all.

DHL FEDEX et all levy the tax by rote and pay the relevant customs EVERY time then get it back from their unfortunate addressees

Postal authorities just ship and if customs want their dues they have to work for them

All very well but DHL then run the risk of the customer declining delivery if outrageous customs duties levied, and somehow I cant see Thai customs refunding for non acceptance !!

You've undoubtedly already paid for the product. Your merchant is not going to be thrilled about reshipping it to you.

I just can't see any benefit to declining delivery.

Pure awkwardness.....

How much is the customs likely to be? If it was more than the cost of the product, well I might say no thank you.

As to the merchant, why does he have to reship?

Thank you all for your input.

I have done some more research. Most companies shipping the products I am interested in state on their terms and cond. that if charges are levied the recipient is liable, period. I have also checked out Thai EMS and as stated it seems the most secure or should I say reliable with regards to Duty etc. As long as the parcel or packet comes from an individual here not a company and not forgetting they also offer insurance now although I do not know how their policy is on that. In any case for a "Box" approx 3' x 8' x 5' inches weighing less than 500gr no more than 600B, seems reasonable to me. Will do a couple of test runs to my mates and see what happens. Time scale they say under 10 days.
