Going to miss you this trip Dream :( I won't arrive until after the 18th. Don't tell the wife though, I plan on surprising her :grin

Are you staying at China Garden this trip? If so do you know if they have someone at reception 24 hrs? I sent them an email a few days ago but never got a response.

Edit in: Stay until the 20th and I'll buy your beers all night at the FLB :chogdee

No i'm staying at the Chow Soy this trip. Pity our paths won't cross this trip but another time my friend.

May room Sabai Inn is 855 baht. This includes use of swimming pools, afternoon tea and a FULLY manned reception 24/7. Go figure!

Hi Lovedog, Found a website for Dream hotel, here's the link for anyone else that's interested. Thanks for the tip!

http://www.thepattay...el/contact.html

Edit in: Looks like the rooms do not have an in room safe so will probably cross this one off the list. It was not in my original criteria but it is a preference for me and some of the other suggestions have in room safe. Thanks again for the suggestion lovedog.

They do not have in room safes. However most cheaper hotels have the cheap electronic safe that can be easily broken into. There is even instructions on how to do it on youtube. Dream's safe is available 24/7 and takes two keys to open, one in your possession, and one with whom ever is manning the desk. Personally I prefer that system. If you read these forums enough, you will find several men that have gone into shower and had their safe robbed. Others drugged and the safe robbed. If they show up to the front desk with your key, they would have to know which safe it opens, and if the person at the desk didn't recognize her as someone renting a room, would not open it.

You make some good points lovedog but I might opine...

1) If you mean the UTube video of opening a safe with a potato I am cynical that this really works...... It sure is more convenient to have a safe in the room.

2) Normally a 'front desk' security box key has a tab with the number on it! Hopefully front desk will not provide access to someone else.

3) Putting your wallet away at night really only suit an in room safe.

I have had a front desk security box broken into... admittedly not the 2 key type.

I have been fortunate with in-room safes.

Urban myth ... has anyone in the real world opened a safe with a spud?.

I know that I tried it and wasted a rake of praties trying to open a safe ... even tried different varieties ... kerr pinks and roosters but to no avail.

This video was most likely made by hotel owners that were too tight to put an electronic safe in the room..

you would fail to open those safes with a cold chisel and a 2lb lump hammer.

I guess if you are really paranoid you should check if your girl is concealing a bag of spuds under her frock

Don'tcha quote " guess if you are really paranoid you should check if your girl is concealing a bag of spuds under her frock "

I'm guessing your 500 baht specials might be hiding more than a spud. And you are one of the two most paranoid people I have seen regarding Secrets.

Bugger me, I wondered what those two things were between her legs.

Well of course being Irish you would have a selection of potatoes in your pocket. :D

Be careful though, looking closely at the mechanism in mine, it appears you only need to make a catch jump as you try to turn the knob, which appears to be what the guy is doing. It is gravity dependent. I have it fixed it in a location where you struggle to get near it. There was also quite a few safes broken into in a Pattaya hotel not so long ago. I am thinking a crowbar would suffice......link

:hijack:

Thanks for the link Jacko, all these stories of broken into safes has me nervous  In 8 years of going to Thailand I've never had a problem (knock on wood) but there's always the first time. This trip I'll be opening up a Thai Bank account at Kasikorn :thumbup

For a little over half the price of secrets you could stay at D apartments on Soi buakow at the top of new plaza....on the bus route and very close to soi7/soi8

The older(very clean tile floor) rooms cost about 500 baht ...for that you get a huge room, fast free WiFi...,a swimming pool on the roof, a big comfortable bed ,an electronic safe, two free bottles of water ....and you dont get intimidated to drink in a bar with overpriced coyotes.

The older rooms dont have a balconey but do have a large window

Target bar on soi buakhow has nice clean big rooms for 450 baht ....prices correct as of march 2011

Emailed D apartments a few days ago with no response.

Called them just now and they say they have rooms @ 1400. There is no 1400 price on their web page just 600,1000,1100,1200.1300 and 1500.

somehow I dont think they were offering me a discount on the 1500 room ,lol,

I got a reply from D Apartments within 24 hours when I emailed them. Did you use the form on their website? Maybe there was a typo in the email address you gave them or possibly the have a problem with the service they are using. If you want to try to email them directly their email address is d_apt99@hotmail.com

Here's a copy and paste of their reply to me:

yes. I used their form.

not getting responses in the norm in Thailand IMO.

I think most staff just delete them because they cant understand them and don't want to leave evidence that they aren't doing their jobs.
