Anyone ever flown with these and changed over in Shanghai? If so, what are they like as an airline?

Shite

Would you care to elaborate as to why? :D

Flew in using American Airlines on my way to BKK.

American couldn't give me a ticket to travel onward so customs held me up because I arrived sans ticket.

My luggage was held up (customs again?) and CE wouldn't deliver it as I had my bookings with American so I was without luggage my whole trip.

Older planes and disinterested older staff. No on board entertainment whatsoever.

No on board entertainment whatsoever.

Please tell me you are joking? I have booked a flight with them and it's an eleven hour flight to Shanghai. :o

Wouldn't do it again not so much because of the airline but because when you arrive in Shanghai you have to go thru immigration and collect your checked luggage and recheck it again, then go thru immigration again on the way to catch your connecting flight.

I didn't have a lot of time between flights so at least they were able to escort me thru immigration lines just for that purpose and I made my flight as they were boarding.

Nice one. :thumbup

.....or not ! As reading of the reports therein would indicate ! Best of luck with your trip, and they at least all seem to indicate good value wrt cost.

That could potentially be a nightmare if you have a short changeover but I have a six hour wait going to Thailand and a five hour wait coming back. Were the planes comfortable and did you have in-flight entertainment?

A little OT, but just something to check on and be sure of if you haven't already:

Check the visa requirements for Shanghai. I think PROC has "cleaned up" this mess, but a few years ago I had a connection through Guangzhou (just a regular, everyday, routine, standard, 2-3 hour layover & plane change - nothing at all special) and found out getting ready to leave BKK that I actually needed a visa. BKK put me (and several other pax in the same situation) on the flight anyway, but at Guangzhou we certainly got "special attention" (uniformed security herded those of us without visas together, put us in a room with a guard, took our passports & airline boarding docs, had us sign stuff, and kept us in seclusion until it was time to board the onward flight). 'Later learned that Hong Kong (at that time) was the ONLY Chinese stopover point that did NOT require visas, even for a short stopover. I know that they've at least added some other points to the no-visa-required list, but not sure about Shanghai specifically or the policy generally.

I didn't have lots of your time between routes so at least they were able to carry me thru migrants law collections just for that objective and I created my journey as they were getting on.

I don't understand that.

They are cheapest from Vancouver but have an 8 or 9 hour layover in Shanghai so that's the deal breaker for me.

Agreed , nothing but a budget airline with some full pledge services like meals. As mentioned , no on board screen , bring your own tablet or pc.

I'm not looking forward to this flight. I now have a twelve hour flight to Shanghai without in flight entertainment. I think I'll be taking a Xanex. :thumbup
