Skyfall was a good movie. The Thai lady holding my crotch most of the movie might have influenced me but it seemed fine. I didn't even care she was pretending I was Bond (or the Thai BF or some of the other guys she has known.). I was pretending I was Bond myself and enjoying every minute. Pattaya illusions are a wonderful thing.

Well I kind of got that impression going down the Chao Phraya river in one of those long tail boats some decades back, but your 'Bond moment' sounds like fun too!

I have said elsewhere that I liked the new "BOND" movie but if I am honest the franchise is no longer about the pure "BOND" as that is now a period piece set in the 50s and 60s.Daniel Craig is a great actor in this kind of action Film but I don't see them as much of a "BOND" experience anymore, though I do enjoy them and will continue to watch as they go forward in to the future.I find myself thinking that when they made Smileys People recently they kept that as a period piece set in the 60s why cant they do the same for Ian Flemings Bond .

The Thai girl holding your crotch pretending you were Bond. 30 seconds later she realized she was holding Blofeld. :)

Post war Britain and America were a very different world. I'd quite like to see what you suggest........But Bond has always been up-dated and in some way reflective of world each film appears in.

The current film ended in such a way that, the scene is set, Bond is back..........And raring to go. I'll settle for that.

Is it available on DVD around the bars yet ? :ninja:

Yes, as of Monday the 5th. Don't bother with the copy, piss poor sound, terrible focus, tuberculosis guy coughing every ten minutes - perhaps a better copy in a few weeks but not the one I saw. Can't really follow the dialogue, much of the picture is out of focus, you will not enjoy it.

It starts playing tomorrow here in the USA. I plan to see it if I have time. I do know I really like the theme song sung by Adele. One of the best since Shirley's days.

I watched it on Sunday with an English couple who weren't even born when Connery and Moore were playing the Bond role and thought that Daniel Craig was probably the best Bond I've seen for a long time. I don't agree with the idea of trying to stick to to some 1960s period piece - I think the makers got the balance of the "Bond movie" being refreshed to appeal to a whole new audience (as well as long-time fans) just about right. :thumbup Sad to see Judie Dench hang-up her mittens though - she's a class act.

Looking forward to seeing Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway in Les Miserables on the big screen after it's released next month - the trailers look excellent.

Les Misérables has for years been referred to as "The Glums" in England, looking forward to the film too.

It never ceases to amaze me as to how it has run so long in UK as a stageplay, with it's theme, and even the title. Not that I am "dissing" it though, and thoroughly appreciated the version I saw. The part fiction / part history scenario is one that I really enjoy, and this film has huge potential!

In the beginning, I think it was a bit of a Yuppie rites of passage thing - progress from Cats/Evita, prawn cocktails and Blue Nun to Les Mis (as they seemed to insist on calling it), antipasto and Chardonnay. Lots of them (yuppies) thought they had joined the cultural elite just by buying their 10 quid circle seat at The Palace.

I agree, and with the sound systems in place in cinemas nowadays it could be a huge movie to experience.

My opinion of Skyfall:

A big yawn

Pros:

1) Excellent opening montage and song (by Adele)

2) Very high production values (i.e., money was no object).

Cons:

If you're aware you're watching a movie - while you're watching a movie... well, that's not good. That means you're not "invested" in the movie.

As posted previously, the movie feels very contrived. For example, the babes in the movie are there solely because they're babes. They serve absolutely no other purpose such as, moving the story line along. There's one sex scene that's so brief, unexpected, and shot in deep shadow that I didn't know what it had to do with the story (because it didn't have anything to do with the story).

The title, "Skyfall", has next to nothing to do with the story. On the other hand, "A Quantum of Solace" is a great title and summarizes the theme of that film.

There's no emotional punch to the movie. None.

The movie is 2-1/2 hours long. I fell asleep a couple times. Like I said, a big yawn. While not a terrible movie, you can easily claim to have lived a full life if you never see it.

I found myself looking at my watch cos I wanted to go for a beer.

The cinema was near empty but people seemed to be shuffling and munching all around and one twat kept moving around and trying different seats and bouncing around in them. Pattaya is full of nuts!

Film, good action scenes, special effectss, mostly eyeball entertainment.

Story silly and contrived, why do we always have to go through the falsehood that Bond has been turned traitor or killed.

Great opening sequence with the Adele song, but that is hardly a new invention.

Yeah...I suppose after 23 odd films it is becoming a bit repetitive!

So did I.

I don't think they labored the Bond is dead theme. Last time that was used Bond needed to get off the radar. This time it was the ' Rickenbach Falls' and Bond is reborn 'Bourne' and rejuvenated.

But how you enjoy a film is personal. I was just being 'sarcy' to Jackos lament. However much he's entitled to grumble it's hard for me to concur when this Bond rivals 'Casino Royale' as my personal favourite.

We'll all have a different view on that. FYI I rate Russia with Love as number 3.

I'm in the mood to quibble.

'Skyfall' is entirely relevant as a title. It's where we learn he was born...where he was orphaned and lost his parents...........where his parents are buried and where he buries his own past. And where, aptly, he loses his mother substitute and is orphaned again. You have to 'fall' to be reborn.

I couldn't give you any reason for the choice of 'Quantum of Solace' which has a context in the original Fleming short story about an unhappy marriage that Bond comes into contact....... with but it had bigger all to do with the film.

The babes are just babes....This 'IS' a Bond film..........and at least one Babe in the film is given an 'origin' that we've never known before... Prior to this she was just, (if a little elderly and matronly) another loyal Bond 'babe' Now and for the future we have a reason, apart from Bonds animal attraction for an emotional connection and her apprehension whenever he's sent out on assignment.

Can't argue with the other criticisms........though personally I became a unreasonably emotional at one point......(Not where you might think or where I'd have ever expected). ...........I'm not saying where.!!

If you have previously enjoyed 'any' other Bond film.........Particularly the heavily 'filleted' 'Quantum' or Rodger's stuff..... then I can't see how this one fails to deliver.

But heyho!........We all see it how we see it!

Yes, but since I was not emotional invested in the movie, I simply don't care about his background or his psychological motivation

Then what you're saying is that Bond movies are simply eye candy. Why not just look at MTV videos? For me, a movie has to earn its reason for my time to be spent on it.

I liked 'Goldfinger', but lost interest in the Bond franchise long ago.
