For all you expats out there, which Pharmacy would be best to buy regular drugs? Which one is stocked the best and which one has the best prices. Nothing exotic, I will need to stock up on diabetes, antibiotic and blood pressure meds. Thanks and see you all soon. This is starting to be the longest week in my life. Oh the anticipation.

A good question, but can't you bring them with you when you travel? Many of the places here are selling copies or Thai equivalent and many of those are not so good.

 

Surely your diabetes medication should be brought with you from the USA?

 

For me personally, if i need any medication and i am just getting over a bad case of Bronchitis - i only go to Dr Olivier who is the only "allowed" farang doctor in Pattaya. He keeps a good and genuine stock of pills etc.

A very sensible answer but I am not coming from the USA. Actually I have not been in the USA for about 4 years. Usually I get my needed meds in Dubai but this time I will not have time to stop in town. Usually the pharmacy in the airport has what I need, but I wanted a back up plan. The available medications in Afghanistan for me are very limited as in emergency supplies only. Good to know about Dr. Oliver. Thanks.

My guess is that Boots wont barter on drugs. Just a guess.

 

The Lady at the small pharmacy near Tim's has always been honest with me and she will drop her prices. Her "husband" is not as pleasant however.

I get my supplies of heart medications at Fascino's. They are on Pattaya Tai by the school and Pattaya Nua, where their larger pharmacy is. I don't look for discounts on them. One pill I take daily (plavix) is 125 baht each. Ouch.

You're fortunate. My friend in the US takes Plavix and it runs him $400 per month for his daily pill.

Thanks to all for all the great information. Luckily, the medication I take regularly is the most common and least expensive world wide. At least now I know there are decent sources for my needs in and around Pattaya and can concentrate on my wants, Right now the want list includes steak, lobster, cold beer and hot women.

I have visited a few Boots and they seem to be 98% makeup and shampoo and stuff for ladies and babies, 1% stuff for guys and 1% pharmaceuticals, so the problem might not be legitimacy but availability.

 

I lean toward ex-pat/tourist focused hospital pharmacies in developing countries if the meds are life sustaining. At times more money but if they are accredited they are not going to be substituting copies (by that I do not mean generic, I mean copies of generic).

 

I have heard the RX near Tim's is OK and high volume, and I have shopped at Ruamya which is across from the CK Hotel on second road heading towards Jomtien and maybe 100 metres before the road curves toward the overpass/Jomtien. Also heard good things about Fascinos and big pharmacies with lots of clients will make money without tomfoolery and will also rotate the stock fast enough.

Couldn't agree more. Biggest selection anywhere + the discount card does comes in handy when buying bulk. At least here, ur guaranteed no counterfeit meds.

I take Clopidogrel 75mg every day. I get it 'free' on the NHS here in England.

 

Back in 2009 I was paying 91 Baht/pill at Fascinos on Pattaya Nua.

 

I was told to take it for a year after having a Stent fitted at Bngkok Pattaya Hospital.

 

I recently had two more Stents fitted so need to take Plavix (Clopidogrel) until next October at least.

Yeah, and he was thrilled a couple of weeks ago when he found a Walmart pharmacy that can suppy him for $350/month ... More or less $11 - 12 per pill. That is just the way it is in the US for the uninsured.

I have medication for Glaucoma and I also use Fascino on Pattaya north road. One of the eye drops is often difficult to get but they always have a couple of bottles in and will order if I need it. I also have the discount card.

So they should be. Not so much that the drugs are cheaper but the dispensing fee and Pharmacist's wages should be far lower.

Myself and many of my expat and long termer pals use the Two Fat Ladies in Soi Bukhaow next to the Pook Swan Bar. They are helpful, knowledgeable, experienced and reasonably priced. Over the last few years I have used them on numerous occasions for minor maladies and afflictions and each time they have supplied me with the necessary potions to restore my normal health.

The FDA would frown on it. Legally, you have to have a license to mail prescription drugs to/from the US even if the country of origin does not treat them as prescription medication ... and I suspect something like Plavix may require a prescription in Thailand even if plenty of places pass it out like cough drops.

Would the FDA bother going after something so small scale? Thought they'd only concern themselves with major distribution.
