Saigon, the Apex unlike most do not usually change the rates during high season although they will do specials during quiet periods,i  reserved a room on june 18th and have an email confirmation from K Somat the manager quoting 500baht/night for december/january.

I would imagine they are very nearly booked up by now for this period,so perhaps they are starting to adopt the economic rule of demand and supply.

Have you tried the Pig and whistle maybe 100/200 baht more but its money well spent.

I was in Pattaya this past November and only paid 650 a night at Eastiny Place, although my stay began late October.  Have you tried the Sawasdee Hotel group, they have weekly rates of 2850 & 3450.  There are many hotel just of Walking Street that charge anywhere from 300-600 baht a night.

Take a look at the White Inn, Cornor of Second Road and Soi 15. A two minute walk to FLB Bar and they charge 400 baht per night year round. Also no id checks at the desk but also no pool. Many guys staying long term pick this hotel because of price and location.

Hi,

When it comes to 500b Hotels, my last stay I saw the Carlton  advertising with a big banner above the entrance just that very price. I've stayed at  the Carlton in the past and it was at  best average. If I were to stay there again I would ask for a room 1st/floor facing the pool.

The next hotel is the Thai Palace on 2ndRd @ Soi4 - I believe that their price is 650b

Then, there is The Cottage which is off 2nd/Rd facing the parking lot to Big-C, their price is 650b

If you are not picky about where you stay - try Chaplin's Bar on Soi-3  There basic room is in the 500b range

You can also try Gilligan's Bar - I believe that they charge under 500b - Never stayed there, so I can't tell you what it is like.

Other places to consider is Queen Victoria Soi-6, Tim's Bar, Pig & Whistle Soi-7.

Have Fun

nautical inn is a great deal for 550B, corner of beach road and soi 10 near Mike Department store.  great pool in a tropical setting, nice staff,  decent rooms; clean but nothing special.   the  restaurant is pretty horrible......eat elsewhere.    but this place is  definately worth 550 and the location is good;   'Lets Relax' massage is next door and  high-speed internet is 100 yards away.

Why does everyone seem so rich?

Hmmm, probably because I am a Swede and pay 75% in tax.

Last winter I was at a Sawasdee Hotel near Khao San when I was in BKK, never tried their hotels in Pattaya but plan to do it when I come to Thailand now in 2 weeks. Having diabetes I have succeeded in combining holidays and sick leave so I am gonna remain in the area for almost 5 months, yippee!!  ;D ;D  (3 months last winter. See http://medlem.spray.se/arqivariet/ ) Anyone who has tried Sawasdee in Pattaya, like http://www.sawasdee-hotels.com/new/hotel/s...ee_seaview.html ? I do not need ac until March so with a weekly rate of 1600 it would suit my budget.

s_b,

I have a reservation at The Pig & Whistle first ten days of December for 650 inclusive.  I already know it has good food so I'll check it out.  I've always stayed farther south in town (Lek/Pattaya Cetre) or on the way out Prattanak Rd toward Jontein so it will be nice be up on Soi 7 for a change.  I'll be playing Cheap Charlie this trip so bf'ing from Soi 8 and walking back should be a pleasant change.  I always hate getting a baht bus after midnight and trying to head for Jontein.  Walking to Second Rd and heading north is always easy.

I hear you Vikingfan.  Stayed at Dynasty Resort last trip and too many baht buses.   Arrived in Pattaya yesterday.  Really like the Koenig Mansion.  Good deal for 600 baht.  Cold air and lobby looks like a modern disco.  Haven't had to dodge any lady boys yet on the way to Walking st.  Seems like a pretty quiet area.  Later, Got to go find some suds on Soi 7.  SB

I checked into Ice Inn yesterday after Apex was full.

500 baht. Little internet cafe downstairs. Slow computers but nice enough staff.

Quite a few downsides. I was on second floor. No elevator for those carrying a few bags or returning after a skinful of booze. My room stank of old vomit and mustiness. I told the staff on arrival and a guy put the air con on and came up with an airfreshener. When I returned a couple of hourse later the smell was back. Terrible. Plus the air con was very noisy.

The best bit was that at 10.30 am this morning the hotel staff handymen decided to repair some metal chairs in the open plan area outside my room on 2nd floor. Lots and lots of banging.

So walked around the corner to find the Bay Breeze. Also 500 baht for a non smelly room with quiet air con and what appears to be a bigger bed. Working elevator, just.

Checked out of  Ice Inn right after.
