Thai Visa is reporting that there are fake 500 baht notes that have been reported from a business in Ang Thong. I'm sure if there are many of them they will eventually make there way to Pattaya or the other resorts in Thailand. The description tells the difference, but they also say they are pretty good fakes, so take care and check your notes when you get them.

Is it reasonable to assume that if you get your Thai currency from a Thai bank (via the ATM) that you'll be getting the real thing?

You would hope so wouldn't you , i think this is aimed more at notes being passed in bars and shops though...!

Well there is limited exposure there, paying with a 1000 baht note often is mistaken for a 500 one in a GGB!

My TGF has received fake 100s from the local market.

Yeah , i've had the 1000 b " mistake " tried on me a couple of times , also if your TGF has been duped with these dodgy notes what chance have we got of spotting them....!
