How much smog is it in Pattaya? (January)

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I'm planning a trip to the east coast of Thailand this coming January, Pattaya to be exact. I understand that the beaches are not very good. Let's say I find a hotel with a nice pool and sundeck - how "clear" is the sky in Pattaya? Is it Los Angeles a la 1990's - or is it a bright sky? Hard to answer maybe. How is it compared to Patong? Or is it as much smog as Bangkok?

I've never noticed smog in pattaya. The sea breezes and relative lack of any basin for it to collect on might be a factor.

To be sure, Bangkok has smog. Pattaya, not so much. Ditto for Patong. Pattaya does seem to have something in the air, though. I always get a terrible cough there after about three weeks. In Patong, I'm always fine.

It can be hazy but it's not visible brown smog. Don't know what the air pollution numbers would be.

The sky isn't 'clear' most of the year though as you would expect with the high humidity.

You can get the starry nights November-January when nights are cooler.

Not so much smog though....just dust and fumes!
