Pattaya lightning strike caught on video. Typhoon Nira wags her tail.

Recommended Posts

Tonight amidst lots of lightening and thunder from an approaching storm, this monster strike happened a few hundred yards away...note the camera shake when it happens....that was me jumping.

Typhoon Nira is moving across Thailand, and just brushed Pattaya with lightening, horrific thunder and rising winds...it rained for about 20 minutes and then passed (we hope)

Here is the lightening strike. Notice how soon after the strike you hear the thunder!

It was a noisy night at my place. Lightening and thunder starting about 8.30 and then rain with it by 9pm or so. Woken up by thunderclaps throughout the night! Sounded like 2 major storms. Still fair rain at 6.30, a full pool and some sink-holes in the garden.

The TGF is quite happy as there will be no need to water the garden for a few days!

Any beach left in Pattaya?

At 08.00 I need to put the lights back on as the rain gets heavier. My cable TV is out, the TGF will take the truck and I will be left here watching my expensive chlorine spill over the edges of the pool... and the earth of my garden mysteriously vanish..ever fearful the house will tip to an angle. I am told this weather is here until Saturday, and the radar image shows it heavily around us.

Any idea where that hit MM? Surely some damage!

It better be gone before I get there. I do not need another 1' of water in FLB the day before I get there.

Best guess is it hit around Soi 4 Thappraya...looked like it hit near a motorcycle taxi stand. I'll go ask them today if they shit their pants.

Good video. Surprised we don't hear an "oh shit!" color commentary, or was that drowned out by the thunder? :D

Here are a few pics from this morning.

Across from 6/1

The Hilton waterfall. They were almost finished with repairing the damage from last week's rain.

IMG_4250.jpg

They didn't go down far enough with the footing and this is the result.

IMG_4245.jpg

Turns out planting trees in the steps wasn't a good idea after all.

IMG_4239.jpg

With the sharp drop to the beach, it doesn't take much water to wash the sand away.

IMG_4258.jpg

Not only are the drains too small, but they don't empty anywhere. This is at the south end and the water isn't flowing anywhere.

The cesspool below the new police/info center. Hope they don't skimp on the floor seal.

I was in PBG when the lightning strike happened. Didn't see anything as they had the shutters down. I just thought it was a very loud clap of thunder.

The rain returned at about 3am and carried on for several hours. Much of the Walking Street area ended up under a foot or more of water again.

It stopped for a while but kicked off again about 30 minutes ago. Bugger. :sosad
