Best way to fly to PI?

Recommended Posts

Due to the demos in BKK, I just checked out flights to Manilla in 3 weeks time. From Glasgow, it was a gruelling, 3 stop, 32 and a 1/2 hour flight. Glasgow - Amsterdam - Bejing - Manilla. It was cheap at £513.

Two stop flights are over £700.

Do Emirates offer a single stop connection?

Do Emirates offer a single stop connection?

They didn't seem to show up at all, which is unfortunate, as I like them. PI airways are showing at 1 stop for £673 with PI airlines, but the page is confusing.

Phnom Penh ( from Glasgow) is showing at £681 , understandable website , or £548 confusing website ( opodo).

Thanks. Seems to only be available from Feb 1st , from Glasgow! £634 on 1st Feb , which was the best price , and is ok, imho.

I think also now Etihad are flying from Glasgow and they also fly onto Manila

I'm a big believer that the price of the flight is all important whilst sitting in front of the computer making the booking.

Once sitting in the said plane it all becomes about comfort and flight times.Price drops down the list of importance.

Flights these days seem to be becoming more and more about 'you get what you pay for"

The first thing I look for is price, then flight times, connections layovers then airline.

I 'm happy to pay for shorter flight times, no or short layovers and acceptable departure arrival times.

Eg to leave at say 10am Sydney means I can get the train to the airport, leave at 6 am means a taxi.A difference of about $60 . Arrive at destination mid afternoon or early evening is good. If you arrive at 11pm it means you are paying for a hotel night and missing the day.Not great value.

So its not just raw prices to look at, add in all the other circumstances to get to the best conclusions, not necessarily the cheapest option.

Hope that helps.

You dont say when you are planning to go. If you are checking flights then you don't have a ticket yet? If you are not going for a while then I wouldn't do anything rash just yet . Unless they take over the airport again, staying in pattaya will not have much effect on your holiday, going on past disturbances.

I've just checked Emirates site and they do have flights available for the mid-January slot you were looking for. A bit more expensive tho'. £743 return to Manila. Also you do know that Emirates fly directly to Angeles city (Clark Int Airport), don't you ? These flights are slightly cheaper, £694 or £714 for Fri,Sat & Sun departures. The stopover in Dubai is also very slightly shorter on the return !eg; still 8 hours though.

One other thing about Emirates 777s in cattle class covering the Asian market; they squeeze in an extra seat across the aircraft. "Built for Thai girlfriends!"

I think Etihad involves a codeshare via MAN or LHR.

Yes, either Schipol, Brussels, Manchester or Dublin from Glasgow.

Personally, I refuse to set foot on the high-density 777s operated by Emirates and Etihad, so I would probably end up flying to somewhere like HK for a day or two and getting a cheapie from there into Clark.

Thanks, will have a look at that, but an 8 hour stopover is harsh. I done a 9 before , and vowed never to do over 3 hours again.
