Calling U.S. toll free number from Thailabd

Recommended Posts

For some reason, I had the impression you could not call U.S. toll free (800) numbers from outside the U.S. That's a problem to the extent that the toll free number is often the only one shown on commercial web sites. Had the issue arise today, and before I started wondering around the internet to find a "regular number", I tried the 800 number. As expected, I got a recorded message in Thai. What I did not expect was that I then got a recorded message in English saying that if I let the call go through, it would be with a regular toll. I was happy to let it go through as a toll call.

BTW It related to reservations for the next trip in August.

When using Skype (and probably other voice apps) to call a US toll-free number, there is no charge.

Skype works on my mobile phone, so I suppose I could make the call from there, though I haven't tried that yet.

It certainly works (very well usually) with my computer.

I did have trouble a few months back calling one of the US toll-free numbers using True. I believe it was an 866 number. True would not connect - kept giving me a message about incorrect or invalid or something.

I switched to a DTAC phone and it worked fine.
