Getting medical records from BPH

Recommended Posts

Due to events on this trip, I have had an MRI and x-rays at Bangkok Pattaya Hospital. It has occurred to me that I may want/need to follow up with my primary care provider when I get home so I was checking to see how I would get my records and the images, particularly the MRI. Found this page on the BPH site. http://www.bangkokpattayahospital.com/en/medical-document-services-en.html. There's a form to download which doesn't look too bad. I suspect that copies of the MRI images might be a bit pricey, but nothing compared to another MRI in the US. And yes, I do care even if insurance would pick up most of the cost. Also, it isn't the most fun procedure in the world. If I remember, I'll post an update after I actually make the request.

Are you still there? Just go directly to the radiology department and pay for the DVD and they hand you one. All the hospitals do that.

They can do films but since most doctors use the computer to scan through the scan anyway, vs. look at that big film with 200 little images on it, your doctor is likely to want the CD anyway.

X-rays might be on film but they are usually on digital as well and a CD would be likely. Free to ask them at the hospital.

Phyathai in Sriracha charged me about $3 for a CD with DICOM images (industry standard) of a head CT scan. It was ready by the time I came out of the neurologist office. The whole trip was 55 minutes from arrival to departure including the scan so the CD copy must have only taken a few minutes.

There are free DICOM reader programs for Windows or Mac so you can view your own scan. They can convert the 2D images (each slice) into a 3D image you can rotate and look at from all different angles, which is cool.

Thanks, here until early April so I have plenty of time. That makes sense. The neurologist was looking at it on screen and showing me the indication I had been knocked in the head more than once in youth sports.

I came down with pneumonia once and went to Pattaya memorial hospital. They did chest x-rays which I asked for to take home for my doctor to look at. No problem getting the film , but once home, they said it was exposed so badly that it was worthless.

Just a layman's view but the shoulder x-ray was sharp enough for me to see the crack in the bone. Anyway, if it's still an issue in six weeks, I suspect a new one would be needed in any event.

The MRI certainly looked sharp enough and I could see what the doctor was pointing to as not being mint condition.

Both the scan and X-ray are probably available. Get the DICOM software if you have a PC there. Quite fun to play around with especially if you convert to 3D.

Walked in to the registration's customer service office which is to the left of their lobby counter. Told them I wanted to get a disk with my x-ray and the MRI. The contact representative called someone, radiology, I would assume and said it would be ready in 30 minutes. It was. I don't have anything with a disc drive so I can't vouch for what is on it. There was no charge. They were happy that I had my passport with me.

I also asked for my medical records. The told me those would be ready in 3 to 5 days and they would call me.

I had either never downloaded the form I mentioned above or had lost it. That was not a problem and I was not required to do it on the spot.

As GP suggested would be the case, the docs here in the world were able to access the imagery on the disc without any apparent problem.
