Anyone been through T2 LHR recently?

If so, how was your experience?.

Any tips or suggestions are welcome, I know there are a couple of eateries there, does anyone know if they're any good, or should we just expect standard pub haute cuisine?.

It all looks a bit of a pain to be honest, even a bit impersonal, but I'm only going from what I've read and seen on youtube.

Cheers in advance...

After security there is a Fullers London pride pub/restaurant, Pride is about £4.20 per pint. There is a Wetherspoons in the check in hall, but I have not been there.

It is a very long and up and down walk to the gates,, a couple of shops near to the gates but I think only Boots and Costa coffee.

IMHO as it is a new Terminal it could be a lot better but I suppose LHR is trying to squeeze a pint in a half pint pot, check out the LHR web site for more details.

A small Singha at Mango Tree, BKK is 187 baht plus tax, be warned.

Have agreat trip.

Cheers Gus, will probably stop at our usual eaterie outside the airport , then and grab some snacks for the flight from the Tesco's near to the parking company before heading into LHR.

Using T2 this Wednesday to fly to Germany so will see how it is then. Not sure if European flights use a separate section but I'd imagine T2 is the same. Whatever. My wife and son flew with Eva Air in Feb, said quite good but long walks from bag pickups.

I'll be doing it in July to fly to Thailand

Was there last week....very busy due to half term and families making up the numbers. The Thai flight TG911 was chokka, loads of ankle biters on board as parents thinking it's cool to drag their sprogs to the tropics and feed them spicey food for a week.Poor mites would be better off going to Benidorm.

Huge queues at immigration at Bkk too.

I was there in January. As has been said , its a very long walk! I much prefer terminal 2.................so much so ........I may even consider using another airline next time I fly ! (I "normally" fly Thai sometimes Eva). Im considering flying with maybe Ethihad or Emirates next year.......................would be good if they still use terminal 2?!

Thanks for the replies. The new LHR T2 doesn't fill me with excitement I must admit, I guess it's just a necessary evil.

It took me 45 minutes to get thru immigration at BKK last year, it's a fucking pain in the arse, and hardly the best welcome to Thailand after 11 hours sat in a metal tube full of stinky fellow travellers.

It's fine it's an airport. The one thing I will say is it's more friendly than other terminals I've used.

And yes family friendly too sorry I dragged my half thai ankle biter to the tropics for 6 weeks Billions. Up to us !

Travelling with kids isn't an easy gig by any stretch of the imagination. When they're about 2 years old it can be sorely tempting to stick them in the hold for the duration, and I'm talking about my own here.

A few years back I took Butch Jr from the UK to the RP while her mum flew from the USA into the RP. 13 hours on a Malaysian flight, plus a stopover in KL and another 4 onto MNL from there looking after a 2 year old almost gave me a coronary. Although I got a fair bit of kudos but fuckall help from the female stewardesses , it was a steep learning curve. I learned that from there on in she can travel with her mum.

Little things like having to take her to the toilet when I need a piss, mixing up milk , feeding and keeping her amused in the space of the 2 seats we had was a challenge. Luckily the bloke sat in the aisle was fairly understanding, and probably blessed the day he had purchased his sennhieser noise cancelling headphones, but very probably not the one when he booked his ticket to Malaysia.

That's why I sympathise with anyone travelling with their kids, especially alone and without the support of their partner or elder kids to help out.
