TOPS 2nd & Klang closing soon

Recommended Posts

I heard the end of the month; No more Tops at that location after August of 2015. They were paying 2,000,000 baht per month rent, or it was gonna be that amount. Too much either scenario.

Wasn't it scheduled to become another big new Mall a while back?

Obviously the car park and the small shops near it (MPs, and the ancient Cool House restaurant) must also be going.

I must admit I haven't been going there for ages but often stocked up my minibar from there when a tourist.

If it is true that would be a shame. Always liked that market and the non hi-so bowling alley upstairs. It is also the only GNC store i know of in Pattaya, hopefully they will relocate

The deli/cheese section was good, but not much else IMHO. The cafeteria type stalls were good for the budget conscious farang food eaters.

Going to miss that palce. Always stocked up my refrigerator there and got somesnack and whave have you on every trip I've gone to. The bowling wasn't to bad, after a couple pithers of beer, seemed to do much better.

Loved Tops when it was 24 hr... all downhill since they shortened their hours...

What will it be replaced with? Seems the building owners have been very short on maint...

Probably going to make way for another big hotel. There's an awfully large footprint of land there if the parking area is included. It'll be a shame to see it go, I remember when it was pretty much the only decent sized supermarket in Pattaya other than Big C. An easy walk from any hotel in soi 7 / 8 and as many have said, ideal for stocking up one's hotel fridge with adequate "tart fuel" (lady type drinks) to satisfy your "wife for the night".

I'll miss the bakery, plus the fact it's served as an occasional Air conditioned respite during a stroll around that area of town or after running the gauntlet of the crossroads in between traffic.

The cheap cafe inside, the one that doesn't require you to buy pre-paid tickets, did great fried duck with basil leaf and some other duck dishes. The other place I liked for the duck curry was Fra Pattaya on Tai. Last night I was going to go to the bar on the 2nd Rd, which is close to where the baht buses all stop and ask whether they had been given their marching orders, but I got distracted by nudity and it was closed when I got there and I had to stagger back to Paddy's Bar. I wonder if that row of shops on 2nd Rd will also be demolished.

Enjoyed Tops very much over the years. And over most of those years there have been rumors about it's coming demise. Will be interesting to see if will actually close down this time.

I also recall the stories about the old Nova Lodge being torn down. It was sold and re-branded, but it's still there....I think.

Certainly all that prime real estate on the north side of Pattaya Klang from Beach Rd. to Second Rd. will be developed one day. But...the 'when and what' is to be determined...... Kinda sad....in a way.....

Unsure... but I walked Monday in this area and I saw several boards like "reopening soon" or "renovation this month" on several parts of the building. For sure the bowling is still open (and no sign it could close) and many of the shops around or above Tops will still be there. Not sure about Tops itself.

Someone told me recently it is just being renovated and not, as I originally thought, knocked down to be replaced by a big ugly condo or hotel.

So perhaps it will be back like Arny.
