Retirement Visa Price Increased...

Recommended Posts

... but don't worry, only the "not really official" ones ;)

There are many "visa agencies" in Pattaya that use to offer a way to get a "Retirement Visa" (in fact a Visa Extension for reason of +50 yo) to those who don't meet all criteria, mainly the criteria about money (800,000 baht/year or 65,000 baht/month)

It looks like the price of this "service" went up 5,000 baht recently and is now around 25,000 baht when it was around 20,000 baht yet just before Christmas. The process is easy and unchanged: you give your passport and the payement, and you tale it back 2 days later with "an official stamp obtained at Jomtien Immigration" (or at least it's what they say...)

Nota: Such visa/extension is IMHO fully illegal (Don't use them!) but agencies in Pattaya advertise so freely that surely they MUST have some kind of agreement with Pattaya Immigration... :whistling:

The shop below, in a very popular place, advertises it now for 24,500 baht against 19,500 a few month ago.

I want to book my fraudulent important paperwork in a wooden box that looks like a poor news stand. Sign me up.

Two stools though so quite a posh operation.

Vs. the one stool or standing only wooden boxes.

The marriage visa they require you to actually show up with your wife and loads of photos from home and they take a photo of you with your wife as well at immigration on the computer. Not sure about the retirement visa but it sounds a bit odd.

Nice little revenue stream for immigration too.

Assuming there is any actual involvement with immigration.

To pull something like that off on a production basis would not get by the scrutiny of immigration without a few greased palms in the building.

When I said "immigration", I meant some of the staff in the immigration office, not the government department itself. I am pretty sure they are only getting the legal visa amounts.

Look at all the Russians working openly on Walking Street. They, or their bosses, are paying immigration authorities (individuals) a hefty amount each month. I was told I could have my 6 member Filipino band working without work permits for 5000 baht/month each, and avoid going through the hassle of getting them work permits.

Oh to be an immigration officer on the take...ka ching.

If my old friend Jimmy had not already passed away (RIP) , he would have a heart attack seeing that price. He had neither the income nor the savings to get a legal retirement visa. He was paying 10,000 baht per year for quite a few years. The office he used was in Pattaya but I don't remember the name.

Probably so. A graphic artist may create a stamp that will work occasionally, but they are rarely that good and their work won't be reflected in the computer.

I understand that you can cut out the middle man and deal directly with xxxx Immigration Office, if you happen to make contact with the "right" IO there.

They have a link with a branch of Kasikorn, and the only inconvenience is that you have to go along to that branch to open your account there.
