Question for the Yanks

Does North Korea plan that far in advance?

Don't know about North Korea's planning, but I was thinking of a trip to Thailand next Feb. and Korean Air has been a possible carrier for me. They still have 3-3-3 seating and some of the flights no longer have the long layover at Inchon. But will flights soon be fully booked along with increased prices?

If anything is going to happen I should think it will be fairly soon.

2018 Winter Olympics are to be held in South Korea 09 Feb - 25 Feb.

Maybe they can layout the Biathlon course to go by Pyongyang and take out L'il Kim.

If anything... I actually don't think he has the capabilities, what have we seen, one successful missile launch and a few mishaps.

All those that go rolling past at the chest-beating parades are ersatz.

If he launches even duds around Guam, will Trump react?

Seoul is close to batteries of artillery that could kill a lot of people.

What is known is that NK has around 10 nukes but no delivery system (except a boat). Apparently, intelligence thinks he has miniaturized a weapon. That is indeed a long way from a pinpoint strike capability.

This whole situation is not about that. Clinton got a treaty with NK, gave them 4 billion dollars but let them keep their fuel rods. (This is what underlies the opposition to the Obama/Iran deal). Bush called Iraq, Iran and North Korea "the Axis of Evil". Bush went after the weakest of the three. Kicked the nuclear can down the road. Obama made it look like he was doing something but really only postponed the issue further kicking all cans down the road.

Trump, I don't think, is willing to kick any more cans down the road. If by mid August, North Korea even launches duds at Guam, Trump will act. How will NK respond?

My biggest concern with NK has been floating a nuke into one of our harbors. Seattle, SF/Oakland, Long Beach (LA) are all within range of that.

He's had many successful launches.Too many. The only thing stopping us from making DPRK a smoking hole is the proximity of Seoul to the DMZ.

China has made it's intentions known yesterday. That MAY affect the little moron.

I agree. I think a lot of Trump's bellicosity was aimed at China.

As much as people want to characterize him as a bombastic fool, I do believe there is a method to his madness. He complained to the late Tim Russert of Meet the Press about how bad the Clinton NK deal was at the time.

When Trump dropped the MOAB to Afghanistan and bombed the Syrian air force base after the chemical attack, he sent a message.

Only 2 ICBM, neither of which went far and one broke up...

2017 – North Korea tested its first intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) named Hwasong-14 on July 4.[41][42] It launched from the Panghyon Aircraft Factory 8 km southeast of Panghyon Airport.[43] It was aimed straight up at a lofted trajectory and reached more than 2,500 km into space.[44] It landed 37 minutes later,[45] more than 930 km from its launch site,[46] into Japan's exclusive economic zone.[47] Aiming long, the missile would have traveled 7,000-8,000 km or more, reaching Alaska, Hawaii, and maybe Seattle.[45][48][49][50][51] Its operational range would be farther, bringing a 500 kg payload to targets in most of the contiguous United States 9,700 km away.[52][53][54]

2017- The 14th missile test carried out by North Korea in 2017 was another ICBM launched at 23:41 North Korea time (15:41 GMT) from Chagang Province in the north of the country on July 28, 2017. Los Angeles, Denver, Chicago, Boston, and New York appear to be within range.[55] The missile's reentry vehicle (RV) was seen by people in Japan as it entered the atmosphere and landed near the northernmost Japanese island, Hokkaido.[56][57] Analysis later revealed that the RV broke up on re-entry; further testing would be required.[58] The CIA made an assessment expecting adequate performance of the RV under the different stresses of a shallower trajectory towards the continental US.[59]
