Google's American Inventors

Recommended Posts

The search term ‘American Inventor’ is a 100% match to the phrase ‘African-American Inventor’ so really not surprising.

Yes of course it's natural for Google to assume that when anyone asks for a list of 'American inventors'........What they are really asking for is a list of 'African American Inventors'

Got it. My bad.

Still.....If you put in the same 'American Inventors' request in Google's Mexican edition, in the top 50 you get 46 white men two white women and couple of African Americans.

More inconsistencies considered here.......

Didn't Martin once demonstrate how Google slanted it's search results to us.

I don't recall....but if he did, he was right.

When complaints come in Google just brush them off as 'a hitch with the algorithm'.........But they have an agenda.

Google is perhaps the most powerful company since 'John Company' (EIC)...........The EIC had over 260.000 soldiers ruling India but Google has been invited into almost every home in almost every country..........It has enormous influence.....Something to watch and be wary of.

Still I've learnt how different the history of the western world could have been without America's greatest inventors......Men like Lonnie Johnson and his contribution of the 'super-soaker' water pistol........!

Thank you America.........Thank you Google......Thank you Lonnie......every falang will think tender thoughts of you this Songkran.

Mind you I wouldn't have gotten the world any further than a bucket.....So perhaps I should shut-up.

Search results are localized. There are several alternative search engines anyone can choose to use. Google captured 70% of the search market by having a superior technology that (generally) gives the most relevant results (the page rank algorithm that uses reputation weighting on inbound links). Google won in the marketplace and have maintained their dominant position against the competition. No one is forcing anyone to use google or to click the links returned by a query. Their algorithm isn’t perfect, it’s just better than anyone else’s. There’s no ‘hidden agenda’. These conspiracy theories are quite amusing.

I didn't say their agenda was hidden.......Glad you're amused.

This guy believing Google had a diversity tolerance found out that they didn't.

.......And.......Google favours Dems?

Thanks, I hadn't seen that thread and so obviously I didn't contribute to it either..........You did, and so too did Rhino Tusk, (defending Google at that time as well).......Strange he didn't mention the replication.

February is African-American History month. Not a defense but possibly an explanation. Those who greatly worried by this may want to check again next month.

The link to the earlier thread by Martin was started in August.

Sometimes when I see the search results I double take back to the phrase I put in wondering how the two are tenuously linked! It should have been apparent I was not shopping nor wanting to put the string into another search engine nor want an Amazon book that is not related either! The search 'algorithm' certainly doesn't know what was in my mind as it has one of its own.

I find it's the same with some shopping trolleys.

Google makes its' money by guiding us towards purchases. We all understand this, I don't think that's being contested. But that 'algorithmic power' can be used to guide in many ways.......It's clear from reports of the Google workplace that Google has, (like most of the media), a distinct political bias towards left leaning philosophies. Apart from any intellectual deficiencies I might have that would preclude my employment in silicon valley, my views and politics would rule out a career there..........Unless I kept my views hidden.

As we've seen from one of the links above, disagreeing with the liberal dogma and orthodoxies at Google......will quickly lead to unemployability there or anywhere else in the industry as other tech companies rightly fear Google's wrath and its' reach.

It seems a natural progression to me that with the political views of Google's employees becoming uniformly liberal, that that view would increasingly influence the company.

Not such a stretch from that to seeing a seeping and subtle propagation of Google's politics in it's software.

Here's an example.........I understand that the views here are political and therefore that this thread might be moved to another section or this post censored.

I'm fine with either......But it helps to express the situation with Google as reflected in Youtube better than I can.
