Qatar Airlines running a "promotion price" from Cardiff ..But I booked with Thai!

Recommended Posts

As above really.

I got an e-mail from Qatar, as they have just started a new service from Cardiff to Doha.....Could habe got a flight for £402...connection times were good too.

Cardiff is my nearest airport....yet I booked just today..with Thai Airways! Got them for £525.(booked on their web-site) , could get it cheaper elsewhere.(saw it for £500)...but I couldnt be arsed....so booked it on the Thai web-site.

Reason. I didnt book Qatar? I prefer the flight times with Thai, I prefer direct flights...also I think at least one of the legs with Qatar was on a 777...Qatar now have a 3-4-3 seat configuration on them...so a bit tight on the seat widths!

I booked for October....I assume the prices were same for most dates?

My trip this month flying with Qatar has an A346 on the QR836/837 rotation with 2-4-2 seating.... I actively try to avoid flying 777 if I can....

Ive flown Qatar a couple of years ago,,,,,,,from Heathrow, 3 of the legs were on the A380 and 1 leg was on the 777.....Though Im "sure" the 777 was in the old 3-3-3- configuration then?

Qatar’s 787 In economy has terrible legroom in my experience. I had always managed to avoid flying it, but got caught out with an aircraft swap on a Doha to Heathrow leg.

Their 777’s were far better for legroom, but my flying on the 777 was on the old configuration of 333 across.

Regards

It looks like soon Thai will be the only airline using the 777 in the 3-3-3 seating arrangement, I suppose the inevitable will happen with TG in the end. ( I do know that Eva has 3-3-3 on the LHR route for the time being)

Strangely enough when I was on one of Qatars 777's 2-3 years ago that was already in 3-4-3 it was genuinely fine. I had an aisle in the middle section and cant say it was any different to the norm. Havent flown Emirates or Etihad for years but I understand they are the two to avoid in the 777

I flow on Qatar's 787 last year and will never use that aircraft again with Qatar. The worse economy seat I have ever had. 76cm leg room, entertainment box under most seats and 17" width.

I looked on seatguru and compared Qatar's 787 with other airlines 787s and it seems to be the least generous in terms of seat space.

I could understand if the planes were used on short haul flights. But to expect people to sit in those seats for medium to long haul flights is taking the piss.

BTW am 6.3" so could be a bit biased.

What about the cost and time flying via LHR ?

As for cost to get to LHR..........I work on the railways....so I get free train travel.

Time wise? Not much in it really....obviously going non stop....saves about 5 hours or so...so that negates the travellling to L.H.R.

The older Im getting...I just much prefer the non stop flights...also the slightly narrower seat width ( on Qatar) swung it for me.

Also I prefer the departure/arrival times with Thai airways..The final sweetener for using Thai? I used some air-miles to knock the fare down to £405!
