Greetings Pattaya Lovers--New Member Info (me)

Recommended Posts

Hello there, I am a new member, as of about 5 minutes ago. I am actively in the process of relocating to Pattaya after just entering official retirement on October 10. I was an attorney for 36 years. Delighted to be done with that and moving on to this chapter. I am going to rent a two or three bedroom place in Pattaya, and definitely need to hire a maid because of some mobility issues I have. I walk, but have to use a walker ?. It sure did not help anything to be locked down for way over a year in the United States because of you all know what. It will be interesting to learn how best to get about my new home, as I will be damned if I am going to be held back from chasing whatever I want to because of that! I'm going to check out the business and some other posting boards here to add a little more detail to my need for domestic help, but sure do invite feedback and information from any and all of you. I look forward to getting to know all of you through post here, and you who live in Pattaya IRL. ExpatAtty.Ret  aka Brad

Welcome aboard Brad.  Finding a maid will be easy.  My only advice is - if you like the job she is doing as a maid KEEP her as a maid.  It is a lot easier to find companionship in Pattaya than it is to find a good maid.  ?

Welcome Brad!  Shooter's advice is spot on.  I learned long ago fooling around with employees or those you do business with usually messes things up.

I envy you and the adventure you are about to embark on.  This board is a wealth of information for you.

Hey. I don't plan on banging the maid, LOL. That's why God made Go-Go bars and escorts, right? I've been traveling to Thailand, including Pattaya for the past 30 years, and have built up some friends here, and have, or at least had before they closed for the plague, a number of my favorite places to seek out companionship in town. The maid is to keep my place clean, the shopping done, the laundry nice and folded and pressed, Etc, so I can do my thing when I step outside the front door?.  Brad ExpatAtty.Ret.

Oh, yeah. I would really prefer to avoid using an agency. It just seems to add in a layer of cost and hassle that is unnecessary. Plus, and agencies job is to place the people who sign up with it, and they are likely to tend to do that irrespective of the kind of fit and match between you and the domestic. BJW

Sorry for my scattered thoughts, but specific suggestions as to exactly where and how to place a seeking help type ad, bulletin boards, classifieds, Etc, is really welcome.Expat....Brad

WTTB.

Once you decide on where you're going to live, ask the housing manager for maid suggestions. As this is not an uncommon request, chances are good they'll have a few recommendations.

Sorry.  I got the mistaken impression you were a newby to Thailand.  Sounds like you already got that part figured out.  ?

I was so lucky with the maid I had.  I hired her to clean my condo on a demand basis.  She asked what the building charged me to clean and I told her 400 baht.  So she wanted 400 baht to clean a 1br condo with 3 sliding glass doors and small balconies etc.  Man what a bargain,

She would come when I called and clean until I threw her out.  I mean the windows, Jacuzzi, take all the dishes out of the cabinets wash them, wipe down the cabinet interiors and replace the dishes.  I mean literally work well past 4 hours at which point I wanted to go out.

I trusted her so much I would let her in and just leave her pay and go out.  She could drop the key at the front desk.  And since she was a pals girlfriend never an offer of hanky panky.  The perfect maid.

I finally felt guilty and just upped her pay to 500 baht.  She tried to give me change but I told her it was a raise.  ALl was good.  Then the bastard boyfriend went back to Ireland and took her with him.  I never did find another maid that good.  Ah well.  Things always change,  ?

There is a Facebook group called Pattaya Oracle which can usually provide useful suggestions for the type of things you are looking for.

Thanks, Tallguy,

I've spent several hours now looking around on that Oracle group, and have been able to find some useful information. Thanks for the tip. The only thing is I had sworn off of Facebook because of their Cavalier treatment of information that is true, not true and plain old farcically made up, but in the strict Personal self-interest Department I will get over that and limit my FB use to getting the information I need to get my life the way I want it in Pattaya.

Quick question for you oh, if you know, how many of the members in this party at Forum live there now or did in the past? The chief moderator, I think, said he hoped to see me at some upcoming Pub crawls, when there are pubs to crawl, how many members used to come out for these? Take care, if you are here I hope to meet you someday, Brad ExpatAtty.Ret.

I understand your reluctance with regards to Facebook but it can be a useful source of information about what is going on around town and who is in town. Most bars and restaurants have Facebook pages and update them regularly, many provide daily updates.

There are a number of food groups,e.g. Breakfast Club Pattaya, Pattaya Foodies etc, which contain many reviews as well as info re specials and new menu items.

AFAIK most of the contributors to Pattaya Oracle are either in Pattaya or have been in town recently enough to contribute up to date information. It's probably one of the more reliable Pattaya groups on FB.

I wasn't aware that Pattaya Oracle were organising barcrawls. I know the Pattaya Legends were doing weekly crawls before the latest lockdown and were getting 20-30 guys. That's too many people for me so I haven't been on them. In normal times Frosty organised Pattayatalk crawls once a month. Attendance at these crawls is normally a much more civilized 6-10ish. Wait for the announcements after the bars re-open.

Good advice all. Best thing is to ask reception for the maid . I paid 400 baht a cleaning. If i wasn't home the staff let her in. They came with 4 people outstanding and honest. Agree dont fuck the help but you know that. I have to many waitress stories. Give a yell when you arrive, the Tavern in Bangkok is a good place to meet like minded Americans and Brits.
