  1. I flew Thai recently and going by my experience they will be lucky still to have a business in 2012. Their planes are old and tired, the food is crap and the inflight entertainment is non existant. Now that there is a glut of good middle eastern carriers with state of the art equipment why would you bother giving business to Thai. Even China makes their service look dated in comparison.
  2. Just tried this code on a few select dates and the discount appears to be up to £20. I never actually went through with the bookings so not sure if it definately works but it does definately reduce the price. Cheers Slurpy P.S. do you know if it works indefinately or only till certain expirey date. I take it is something to do with sponsering Arsenal?
  3. Do not quote me on this but I don't think that he owns the freehold. These buildings were built by Lengkee and he doesn't normally have to sell anything. There is also a new robins nest on Soi Bukuoa so maybe he is just down scaling.
  4. I have found a way of getting round the charge and have tried it out at most of the large Thai banks over the last week with total success. The only hassle to the thing is as well as your Nationwide flex account ATM card you need your passport. Simply go into any bank or exchange booth and ask to withdraw your amount using the card over the counter. They ask to copy your passport the same as TT and then you can withdraw up to 20000 baht from most of them in an instant. If you need any more simply walk 10 metres to the next exchange and repeat the process. You get the same great exchan
  5. The 99 services place underneath the VC hotel has boxes for rent. A friend had one for about 6000baht per year. The beauty about this place was that it was close to the action and also open 24 hours a day. You needed 2 keys to open the box and the place had cameras I think. You also had to provide photgraphic id and sign in and out of a register every time you use the box.
  6. Only ever seen them on one estate as you go up Siam CC road. They all have them so I assume they were fitted as standard. I once enquired about the Edwards hot water solar system but I would have to have lived in the shower at least 10 hours a day to make it worth while.
  7. Where is safe in the world these days? I used to have that narrow minded view that the darkside had scary monsters that came out at night who liked to eat falangs, also all thai people who lived there carried guns and rockets launchers. This is just pure crap. After living there for just over a year I can honestly say it is probably safer and more community orientated than most areas around Pattaya. There are more muggings, robberies and weapon crime in Pattaya, escpecially around 3rd road at night time than in my neighbourhood.
  8. What do you class as VIP transport and do you have a website? I am looking to hire a minivan with driver in a couple of weeks for 3 days, how do your prices stack up?
  9. Just to add I have just renewed my Non 'O' multi entry visa for the 3rd year in succession and have never had to supply any documents. I merely state I will be visiting friends.
  10. Have just checked with my mates and they both had poolside rooms at the JP and neither was disturbed by the construction noise once. The bulk of the buildings skeleton is now in place so there will not be any pilling or such. My other mate has a bar opposite the construction site on Soi Lengkee and we sit the during the day without being troubled. Hope this helps
  11. My 2 friend have been over for the last month and both stayed at the JP. I booked their rooms for them and inspected both places and the JP was definately the cleaner and friendlier of the 2 places. My mates are now back home but could not get over the friendliness of the staff who all called them by name after the first day. the rooms are basic but a reasonable size but even smelt clean. Hope this helps
  12. The last auction was on the 12th January. It was actually a car auction but they had about 30 bikes as well. I have been along to this auction and also the other one they have opposite Theppesit market and I can honestly say there are very few bargains to be had. I think the company comes from BKK and all they are selling is the crap that they could not sell in BKK.
  13. I purchased a double piston model from the hardware store at the corner of Soi Lengkee and Third Road for a couple of hundred baht. I assume most hardware store will sell them.
  14. Use Jan all the time for my airport transfers. Great family and quality service. More guys should give her a try.
  15. you should contact MM as the Metropol has had a problem recently with some kind of bug invasion and many guests have been complaining. PM MM as he has been staying there until recently, he will know if the problem has been retified yet.
  16. On the rare occasion that I take the car out I usually manage to get parked in Marine Plaza or across the road up the side of the VC hotel. In answer to Jacko the Avenue is open 24 hours due to Villa market being open.
  17. If you put down a 5000bht deposit and stay for 2 months even using the air con most of the time you would still expect to get a reasonable share of your deposit back. I would say at least 1000bht. Obviously this depends alot on the size of room or rooms you have and the energy efficiency of the air con units. Only other thing to be aware of is some of theses rental bump up the standard utility charges so that they make a profit out of you as well.
  18. What time does this place operate from. I passed last week late afternoon and did not seem to be open, although I know the place has blaacked out windows. I heard the sisters from Classroom 2 were working there, is this true?
  19. Papillon get in touch with Gazelle Travel in Newcastle and ask to speak to Gordon the branch manager. They are a main agent for many of the better airlines and specialize in flights to the Far East. You could fly from any regional UK airport via Amsterdam on a 1 year ticket for circa £570, but that was at the beginning of the year so not sure how much it would be now. Flights are KLM to Amsterdam and China to BKK arriving at 6.30am so can be in Pattaya by 8.30am on your first day.
  20. I ate their a couple of times last week and the food is still as good as it ever was. The new place is great with much more room and easy parking available at the rear of the building. The new place is directly opposite Excite disco and about 2 or 3 doors north of Platnum motor bikes.
  21. Before you make your decision you should visit the area again because from what I can gather you are still relatively new to the Pattaya area. Soi 15 that you have chosen is an excellent location as you can walk just about anywhere you need to go within 15 minute. I just about bought the unit on the 7th floor when the development first opened up until I saw what my money could get me on the opposite side of Sukhumvit. If you have not been in Pattaya for a few months when you visit you will see tha Nova group are also going to build there and the Urban group or Seven Oaks as I think th
  22. I stayed there a couple of times when it first opened and although it is an ok hotel with an excellent location it is definately on the pricey side. If you are planning a stay of more than a few days I would definately try and get the rate discounted. Definately stipulate the Avenue Mall side as some bar beers on the other side play music till 3 like you already mentioned and although the rooms have double gazing you can still hear noise. This is not so much an issue if you go out and get home late but if you like the occasional early night or night in it can be a pain in the arse.
  23. Try this website for handy hints and tips regarding all aspect of travel including all the FF programs and also hotel and visa card programs. Flyertalk Hope this helps
  24. I suppose it depends on who you are and how you inter act with the staff. Any hotel where I am a regular guest I always tip the staff well. When I arrive at the LK for example in the first day I probably tip around 600 bht between the cleaners the bell boy and the night security. I am not suggesting everyone does this but I have always found that it makes your stay so much easier and at the end of the day it is only £10. This meant on my last trip I had 2 ladies in the room on 2 seperate occasions and did not pay any joiners fee. It also depends on when you bring people back to your ro
  25. I was staying in this hotel for the last 3 weeks and can tell you that Tong quit bcoz the owner doesnt let him manage the hotel and keeps on undermining him all the time. I then spoke with Tong a few days later and he then told me that as the Renaissance is the only LK hotel that is running at 95% occupancy rate now the owner has come back and given Tong more authority so he can more readily accomodate regular guests with special rates and the like. He still only has limited power over the pricing system though and Leng Kee has issued strict guidlines on high season discounting. The re
