  1. Frightened to test my 4 AC units........
  2. I have just posted a topic that suggests I am not so lucky..... I nearly got struck by lightening.... hope that doesn't happen again, wisdom would say it never happens!
  3. Just a little while ago a lightening bolt hit earth near my house... So far, my big new Samsung TV, my bedroom TV, 2 DVD players, my computer power supply, True TV box and my gate opener are all kaput. Might be a few other things around the house. Had one of those protective extension distribution things on 3 of these items, fat lot of use that was, Relieved not to find a hole in my roof. Surprised my router seems to have survived. Looks like Numchai or Homepro are in for a bit of business. Time to change underwear!
  4. If you were in the Bangkok Hospital Pattaya, it is simply a matter of wheeling you down to the bank of ATM machines in the building. I am guessing Bangkok hospitals have them too. A short stay in a hospital here could eat up many a retirees residual funds. I recently heard of a 2 night stay in Memorial, in a ward, being over 30,000 baht.
  5. Yes, I was going to tell you of that.. so actually £601.
  6. My Biz Class flight on the Dreamliner from Manchester to Doha on Qatar was fine. Very comfy cabin.
  7. My phrase was chosen with a little thought. Let us assume not everyone has a credit card.
  8. The Singing Detective
  9. Yes, I woke at 3am to it and the thunder is still cracking now.... The rain hasn't been particularly heavy (yet) where I am North of town.
  10. This is not a place to be if you need medical support and can't afford it.
  11. I wish I had heeded that comment. Have been in there three times in the last 2 months out of sheer laziness and a need for AC, and each time been underwhelmed. Looking round I saw a few guys were on the Thai food. Half roast chicken dinner recently, it had been deep fried not roasted! Dry as a witch's! Other meals I have tried of Western fare have been OK and nothing special. Ten minutes into it I was wishing I had walked down soi Lengkee to 3rd Rd.
  12. You would think Qatar Airlines would get in on this... they most certainly are offering some low fares lately.
  13. Chaplin.
  14. Thunderstorms this morning, October proving itself as wettest month.

  15. Casino
  16. Nope ...as the pigeon lady in Home Alone 2
  17. My Left Foot
  18. Truly October is the wettest month.... nearly non-stop so far!

  19. A few more than I expected, they fly over my place this time of year.. Arrivals...
  20. Being John Malkovich
  21. Empire of the Sun
  22. Starsky and Hutch
  23. I can't speak specifically for Chinatown in San Francisco, but more generally Chinese food in the USA is also adapted to 'local' tastes. Any country that makes a fuss and has to use chopsticks, yet eats it out of a cardboard box is more about convenience. The UK 'sweet and sour' sauce is exactly cloying and sweet, and generally a lot of corn starch goes into things.... and too much onion and green peppers. I ate at the Wok and Rok some years ago... the hot and sour soup was good.
  24. Meet the Fockers
