    Bite Me!

You mean a location that has not worked for 3 (or is it more) previous incarnations, one of which was the well respected Shenanigans? That 'Avenue' Mall has not worked out very well. What are they doing that is different? It isn't that the customer base has changed in a more suitable direction, those great pub lovers The Brits are 15% poorer and I don't see a line of Chinese following Winnie The Pooh on a stick turning up there. That said I will be giving the place a try out of curiosity and the fact that it represents two good names coming together.
  2. You seem to be considering an extra stop-over in LHR along with KUL, so it all adds to the travel time. My preference is to minimize changes and particularly avoid Heathrow. Yes ME carriers can try to get you onto a long connection with a cheaper price sometimes, but I did a quick look at EK and all the prices I saw were the same at 701 Euros, and you could choose the shorter 3.30 and 2hr transit times. That was going directly to their website. MH had a good reputation for service on the plane before the incidents and perhaps they are offering you a very cheap price, but my old memories of getting between terminals at LHR, well no thanks. I am a big fan of the A380s and Malaysia use the same configuration as Emirates, 3-4-3.
  3. Are they a lot cheaper than Emirates (I see 700 Euros)? EK seem to offer 2 flights/day and you can get the A380 in and out of Bangkok legs. Obviously Malaysian are trying to rebuild their reputation after losing 2 aircraft.
  4. Thank heavens that is over with.. life resumes.

  5. He is from UK so we can say about £100. Air Asia leaves from Don Muang airport which may not suit everyone. I suggest the OP uses Skyscanner. Then also try the airline sites of what looks best. Cheapest appears to be Vietnam Airlines or VietJet, but you may have to go via an agent, Expedia etc. A good alternative in my eyes is Qatar Airways, but that is to Hanoi. And of course Air Asia from Don Muang airport.
  6. Not sure about that, it works out at about 1000 baht/pint duckie.
  7. If they can afford it....
  8. This restriction was attempted at Bangkok numerous times and ultimately failed. I was once told to claim the driver was my brother-in-law if we were stopped. I still get picked up by such a 'taxi'. Sounds like taxi-mafia tactics again and we may get the usual 'no insurance' justification.

Sad in a couple of ways. Losing a good restaurant and the fact that some other places will be serving 'boil in a bag' instead of freshly made food.
  10. I think quoting what you paid 8 years ago could be misleading, but I too paid under $100 (just) for a consultation, lab test and prescribed medication at the BHP THIS YEAR (again just). I also agree that they offer a fast and efficient service. They also tried to get me to have some further tests which I declined as I felt they were scaremongering.
  11. Apologies, I just checked my old emails and my will actually cost 10,000 baht. Two copies and in Thai and English. It would need to be in Thai to apply for probate as that of course is the language of the courts.
  12. Hmm, slighty misled by the The number I usually see on Yahoo Finance (not Google..oops) looks somewhat better than the BB-TT rate. Currently 43.977 and 43.825.....(for Sterling).
  13. Brrr, only 22 degC this morning. Beats zero in the UK though!

  14. Yes, undeclared, as with any currency. Declared unlimited, undeclared $US20,000 or equivalent.
  15. Cider isn't so bad (or even cheap) in the UK in the supermarkets. I believe it was 3 bottles for £5 in Morrison's when I was there, and you could pick and mix a bit. Then there was the 'white cider' which the winos liked as it was strong and cheap, also partly responsible for putting my brother in his grave. As you say hard to find cheap here (compared to a draft piss in a GGB), which is a shame as I find it nice and refreshing when the weather is hot.
  16. Sounds interesting, particularly for an Expat who surely has a Thai Bank account. The 5 days delay is a lot and I am surprised Paypal don't charge more.
  17. Jeez I get a lot of spam/emails from those guys, most of which I cannot read.
  18. It's all a bit hit and miss. Sleep Apnea would require a doctor with some experience of the problem and you may find that at Bangkok Hospital Pattaya. Cheapest is likely a small clinic, followed by Memorial, then City. I would expect the BHP to be more expensive but also more likely to have a doctor with some experience of the problem. That said all of them are capable of simply sending you off with a few pills of little use.... get a relatively inexperienced one at BHP and he isn't going to admit his deficiencies. I might be tempted to go straight to Doctor Oliver who many speak well of although he will be closed until the 3rd January.

  20. Funny this post was bumped. Tops and this location came to mind after I received an email from them. (I used to order goods off the internet with them and they delivered to the house in a van, usually drinks and heavy stuff. The booze vanished off the website so I stopped using them.) Just wondered whether this large empty building was still that, while it was so packed busy outside.... someone go take a look!
  21. My Mrs cooked me some Thai style food.... I think mine looked more festive! (And rather ironically involved chcken wings)
  22. You would be a somewhat richer man had you more trust Gary... but Pattaya Pete will be telling us all about that soon. My issue is I am a somewhat poorer man for having trust, so you carry on!!!
  23. I tend to lose track of notes or drop them when I have them dotted around, ham fisted. The 10 baht coins just seemed to be right. I usually only need to get up Beach Rd and back down 2nd. Baht buses appear to be a major cause of congestion and perhaps limiting their operation is a good idea, What I fear is them becoming scarce and only available for private hire like many other Thai towns. Pattaya is easy to get around cheaply purely due to them... bloody Phuket you need 300 baht to do 100m! Large coaches also cause traffic problems.
  24. Here is a good review.
  25. I just made a one way Qatar booking and got the A330-300 and B777.... Mileage booking so beggars cannot be choosers, easy departure time ex Manchester.
