  1. It is a coincidence that I was considering using Malaysian Airlines in the spring, but only for the short hop down to KUL. I was looking at BA flights, but the outward from BKK timings do not suit me, arriving 'up North' UK late in the day. It appears that for no extra cost, I can board a flight to KUL on Malaysian and pick up BA to London from there. Hong Kong also appeared to be an option, but increases travel time a few hours more.
  2. The price of something has little to do with the sum total costs of its components other than setting a minimum line, more to do with being the maximum the market will bear. Those that still use fuel surcharges are likely getting embarrassed by them, they were an excuse to hide real prices in the past while oil was rising. I am currently searching for a ticket to UK this spring and struggling to find any bargains, may be changing carriers and flying via Helsinki or Istanbul! Oh well, fuel for the truck and bike is somewhat cheaper now here.
  3. Well I have avoided LHR for many many years due to past horrors, although I am considering giving BA /LHR a go as now my transit to domestic would be all T5 and should be easy. (Doing the old T4->T1 via the connections centre is just too horrible). The lounges I have mostly used at Manchester, Emirates and Etihad are really good. At BKK they put you in a Thai lounge. It isn't only about the lounges, boarding of the A380 at Manchester was a world of difference. But the killer for me....... the ability to get up and take a leak!!!!
  4. Perhaps she should be given a shorter stick to point at them with?
  5. Just intrigued what a Biz Class ticket would have been over and above the $945 original ticket..... probably a lot this time of year. Seems more economical to just pay Biz initially for the complete trip..... I figure on getting one for around £2000 to the UK where an economy may be £500. That is for 4x6 hour flights for £1500 more or $2200 more, pretty similar. I would hate to change to economy mid-trip! The lounge at transit is worth a bit to me.....

  7. Have I got this correct, you paid $US525 to upgrade from BKK to Narita, a six hour flight. That just doesn't sound like a good deal

  10. Well so long as they don't ask him if he is British I am guessing the latter!

  13. How is the boarding? I ask because last time I flew with them in their Biz class, many years ago, I left the Amsterdam lounge early to go to the gate, and there was a special but open roped off little area with seats at the gate, that made me think of a pig pen! There was a sign on the rope saying Business Class or something similar, and I felt a right tosser in there! I tend to remain in the lounge as late as I can these days, as many airports/ airlines, the procedures at the gate are screwy and they are unable to segregate or only have one jetway anyhow.

  19. It is frustrating, having to join a queue which consists of people who haven't got the forms, a pen or any idea how to proceed, and I just want a ticket. Some guy in front of me occupied the girl for several minutes. I want to push a button like at the bank!

  23. Fully agree Atlas. The same as me except I went last Monday, no festive dress but quite fast and efficient. The longest wait being for the queue ticket from the young girls on the desk. I chose not to arrive at opening as the queue seems to be at its worst then and I arrived at 09.30. That is a silly area to be as everyone is crowding around to get forms and get in and out via the single opening door. A rather likely place for frustration. I never thought I would have time to apply for the exit-reentry same day so that will have to be done in a week or two. Anyhow, I like to ensure the previous extension has expired before I try and attach a new reentry. Did you have anyone behind you when you offered the heart condition guy a place before you? After checking his doctor's note of course. I keep thinking to let my extension renewal slip by perhaps leaving without a reentry and getting a new Non-Imm O in the UK, I would prefer to be extending in say February rather than the usual Xmas/New Year peak. Ah well, done and dusted for another year in paradise.
