  1. Well it is pleasant enough this morning.
  2. Glad to hear it. Likely I will risk my health at the Fishermans Cafe tonight by the lake. No issues after 4-5 visits so far.
  3. As stated I have Credit Cards, obtained from Bangkok Bank, At the time they were really hawking them, with notices posted all over the branch, and I wanted a Thai card that would enable me to book hotels and pay for flight tickets. I seem to have all the facilities my UK CC gave me except... CREDIT. Well I do get it up to the payment due date, then the balance is removed automatically from my savings account. I am also required to keep a fixed term deposit equivalent to my Credit Limit. Many may say it is not really a credit card then, but functionally it is, and I do not want to have any interest bearing credit. I do not spend what I do not have, but this can smooth out the bumps. When I got the cards I had a retirement extension and no work permit was required. No proof of income was required.

  5. I recall Papillon making a simple comment along those lines and causing quite a reaction!
  6. It seems very restrictive and I am surprised to hear of it with an established customer. I obtained my Bangkok Bank Account so many years ago now I often think the rules must have been so different then. But quite recently, and fairly often, BB let me close a fixed deposit and open a new one, one time I achieved that with just my driving licence and other pass-books. I hear often that Kasikorn are a great bank, but I also hear complaints like yours with regard to being restrictive to opening accounts of late, also expensive replacement 'cards' and not being able to get a credit card without a work permit. I am glad I haven't had to pursue the residence certificate from Immigration for many years, as, like MM, it annoys me!

  8. Depends on severity.....runny shits are a factor of eating spicy food, but for it to create a problem for 2 days seems to be a little more. If it was accompanied by cramps, sickness etc that would be more of a matter. People saying 'well I ate there and was okay' is also not always valid.. if you did not have the exact same meal at the exact same time! I was very sick from an Indian meal I had in the UK (IOM actually), laying me up for 3 days. The mate who ate next to me didn't have the slightest problem. I had the lamb, he didn't, he could eat fried turds and be healthy, I seem more sensitive! After all, curry is just a way of making rancid meats and rodents palatable.
  9. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
  10. Crabs itch, lobsters pinch!

  12. Wow it was hot yesterday... cooler now with very light rain.

  13. Not sure why it would be unsuitable in Dubai, yet suitable for Thailand? No personal experience but when I have heard similar questions answered at the Expats Club many felt it wasn't worth it. But if cost is not a concern.... Start here. Not sure how up to date but easier to read.
  14. I have often felt the same about those being hawked on the Beach too. Coming with sand on windy days.

  16. So three cheers for global warming which will release glacial waters and increase rainfall! Some glaciers do feed into lakes, Lake Argentina, for example.
  17. Saudi Arabia and California are rather different than Thailand, particularly where rainfall is concerned. Desal plants are very expensive to build and run using a lot of power, The high salt content discharge could also cause environmental impact. I wonder if cleaning of used water would be a better way to go. Also Pattaya struggles to get rid of rain water when we have it!
  18. At LHR are they actually Cathay staff at check in?
  19. Perhaps they need to take Fat Sam back!
  20. Well we seem to be getting back to normal, with sunshine and heat. But we still need more raain.

  21. I just read on Stickman that the cure for the warm beers, was to stop the bartender turning off the fridge when he arrived for work, as it made his hands cold! I shall look for gloves.
  22. It's a good job you didn't stand in-front of the white balloons.
  23. I rode by your place a couple of times today. That is actually a pretty good location, not far from LK Metro and a stroll through the Avenue and you are on Second Rd and hence quite central.

  25. Was the recent flood so bad on the WS that it breached that neck breaking step out of there??? Hmmm, Thursday....
