  1. The cheap cafe inside, the one that doesn't require you to buy pre-paid tickets, did great fried duck with basil leaf and some other duck dishes. The other place I liked for the duck curry was Fra Pattaya on Tai. Last night I was going to go to the bar on the 2nd Rd, which is close to where the baht buses all stop and ask whether they had been given their marching orders, but I got distracted by nudity and it was closed when I got there and I had to stagger back to Paddy's Bar. I wonder if that row of shops on 2nd Rd will also be demolished.
  2. A little light rain yesterday and cloudy today. We need real rain.

  3. I was riding down Jomtiem front Monday, wondering why all this work was going on there. Jomtiem Beach Rd was fine as it was, and should have been left alone. Then it clicked, the inferior promenade construction in Pattaya, which needs to be repaired every year and have holes fixed frequently, generates a lot of money for people. Jomtiem, with a well constructed Beach frontage was failing to be productive! (Actually I am betting the road will be widened so that those annoying night/event markets can be staged there).
  4. Slight aside someone has actually filled the potholes on soi Chayaphun so the slow ride down may be easier on the teeth. Mind you loose aggregate has been used so it won't last.
  5. Sorry, I actually meant the Pook Bar.
  6. There will be some moaning and groaning around Soi Bhua khao .........
  7. Wasn't it scheduled to become another big new Mall a while back? Obviously the car park and the small shops near it (MPs, and the ancient Cool House restaurant) must also be going. I must admit I haven't been going there for ages but often stocked up my minibar from there when a tourist.
  8. Chinatown.

  10. 9 1/2 Weeks
  11. Didn't someone say the place has closed?
  12. Didn't give it a go yet but it does state Manchester 31,305/ 87,860 baht Economy/Biz in the advert for Manchester. I am hoping not to have to go back to UK this year but a forced trip in October looks possible.
  13. L.A. Confidential (here comes MM.... )
  14. Etihad just sent me an email about a 96 hour sale........ Fantastic discounts in Economy and Business ClassThis is the link from it. Time to get booking Firth.

  17. It even worked ex Bangkok in Biz Class, knocking the initial fare of 116,130 baht down to 94255 baht I think most of that came off the outward leg. I picked dates in Sept which did not have any Biz Saver fares available, Later Edit. I just picked dates in October when there were Biz Saver fares available, result, the code knocked the fare down from 85510 baht to 71290 baht.(picked Wednesdays both legs) Wow, it certainly seems to work!

  19. Aha, another to add to the list of 'cui bono'.........(lead singer from some Irish band?)
  20. Well I hope you give us some feedback on Etihad, I was a bit unhappy last year with them as when we came through Abu Dhabi there was construction going on and I got messed around a bit. Doubt I will go back to UK before 2016 but one can never be sure. Thanks for the tip on using Etihad miles, I have basically semi-wasted mine by 'purchasing' stuff from their shop before they expired. I have a smart phone and a tablet I got from them and unlike Emirates they include postage costs. Firth, thanks for the tip, although I must admit I have always included Wednesdays travel in my fare searches, as there are more 'saver' tickets available...avoiding the Arabic and Western weekends.
  21. Mary Poppins.
  22. To be honest that wouldn't hit me as hard as you, I travel alone and heading towards the UK my suitcase weighs about 2 KG, on the way back I pack more shit in there but never go beyond 20KG. So any extra baggage allowance is of no benefit whatsoever. Plus I still like to get rid of encumbrances so not checking in baggage would not occur to me (too much hassle at security for one).
  23. Really, I shall have to take a look at their booking site. I had been using Etihad Biz for quite a while until Qatar came back with flights 15,000+ baht cheaper. (And a A380).
