If you are young you may find it an adventure, older it may be arduous. A more expensive option is to fly from U-Tapao to Siam Reap.

I don't think I would recommend places like the Penthouse, in the same area is a place called Camelot that I have no experience of, and my site-advisor blocked me from their site.... perhaps you could check trip advisor. Don't you have any Arabic sites that can help you...as previously mentioned some places will not be open to you and many here will not be fully aware of that.

The Arab people seem to group together in the area of Soi 16 which runs from the Walking St through to 2nd Rd/Phratumnak. On 2nd Rd there is the VC Hotel, Cherry Hotel, White Rose and Marine Plaza. Or you could go up-market and stay at 5 Star place where, if you can book via the internet with a Credit Card you would not have any problems (Marriot, Hilton, Sheraton).This is the area you may like.

I found myself looking at my watch cos I wanted to go for a beer. The cinema was near empty but people seemed to be shuffling and munching all around and one twat kept moving around and trying different seats and bouncing around in them. Pattaya is full of nuts! Film, good action scenes, special effectss, mostly eyeball entertainment. Story silly and contrived, why do we always have to go through the falsehood that Bond has been turned traitor or killed. Walking St is a misnomer these days. Walking is rather difficult there,due to crowds with cameras caused by the street entertainers, strutting Russian tarts and tourists who don't have any money. Soi LK has a lot of new GGBs these days some of which are getting good reviews and as of yet you can stroll from one end to the other in a reasonable amount of time before being blocked by 200 blank faced guys in horrible pyjamas following a flag. I may wonder whether the Soi LK's guest houses can offer a good night's sleep with a GGB beating out the sounds 4 inch of breezeblock away, but then again, nor can Soi 2 hotels.

Hard not to pay with a CC these days. I recently had a hotel stay where my card was hit 3 times, once for the deposit of one day on booking, again for the full 3 days stay + an extra bit to cover consumption at check-in and again on check-out for the full amount. The only deduction appears to be the final check-out bill, but the available credit still reflects the two earlier hits. I don't trust Thailand with Credit Cards...... Perhaps with cash, they would require you to pay for the full reserved stay up-front. Whether claiming no money would work or they would accept a single night I don't know. It is all a little dishonest...long gone are the days when I could check-in with a 500 baht deposit and settle up 2 weeks later on check out. (Normally being scammed for the 500 I had forgotten of by then. )

I saw the Bond film last night, I am thinking terribly contrived (emphasis on terribly) is a requirement for a blockbuster.

You seem overly critical of Thai banks being cautious....... Since many western banks went belly up and needed bail-outs due to non performing loans perhaps that is a good thing. Be careful over extending yourself and investing too deeply with this I think a loan would be obtainable using her and her father's land as collateral, has that option been explored.

To be honest I have been put off Air Asia now since they moved to Don Muang...got used to the easy access to the Swampy Airport. My taxi driver pointed out the new fencing on Highway 7 recently, East/South of where it becomes a Toll road, and said the plan is to make the whole length a toll-way to Pattaya.

Well they can't really do much about it and probably don't want to miss the 'rush'.....I believe the only source of water at the moment is Mabrachan out there on the dark side, and it is a concern to me as I get my water from there too. I am thinking Sabai Dee and their friends will be pouring gallons of it into the sea when I am left high and dry one day. I may have to have a well dug. Holiday Inns are sold off frequently.....

I thought how different life was for my old mother growing up during the war, a child of 9-15, to a modern day kid who can't get their face out of their mobile phone and most important thing is having the latest model. And young men of that time having little choice but to get involved and face the ultimate sacrifice.... could those who rioted in London recently summon up that character. I remember seeing men with missing limbs when I was a kid, somewhat fascinated, morbidly, likely the result of WW2. I took a walk through the graveyard at Kanchanaburi some years back, a sobering experience, men dying at an age when I was really enjoying my life. We know nothing.
