I say bide your time. Rent for a year, there are a lot of condos available for reasonable rents, houses too, but buying new I think they are overpriced. Firstly have you decided where to live? Pattaya for example, central or outskirts, up-country maybe? The place is changing so fast you may find you would rather be some-place else. Many Expats seem to settle over on the dark-side, preferring the space of a house to the proximity of the night-life. A condo is really a little box where you are confined, a relaxing drink being perched precariously 100 feet up in the air, with a nice sea-view and sunset at night...maybe. Four years is still a while off, and as you have been spending a lot of time in cramped quarters I wonder whether a studio would suit, hell hang an old brass porthole on the wall and run the taps and you are back at work!

Being a sufferer of a damned neighbour's dog, I am not sure an air-horn would improve my sleep patterns much.

No, there is a mail service and places do have addresses.If you have never seen a mailbox in Pattaya I am thinking you need to look around a bit more, and as to mailmen... well they are out and about before you perhaps.

I am still a bit confused how the guy got the machine to display 1330 in the first place, unless he just typed it in? I don't know how these darned things work. When I was in Saudi, we were warned off some gas stations as they had the trick of not zeroing the machine between fills. I don't use my debit cards when buying gas, but that would not make any difference here, as you say we have to keep our eyes open as to the pump displaying a normal baht and litre amount when paying up and a zero before. Darned, bad enough watching for the padding at night-time, can't even let our guard down when daydreaming as the car is filled.

Don't know why but can hardly read your small font! The Nakonchai air website no longer seems to have a timetable, but I think it would be easy to pop to their depot and check the timetable out, and book tickets. Their call centre is 029360009, The last bus I took turned off at Den Chai and headed more East. The VIP bus (I guess that is Gold Class now) is pretty comfy. Ah found it, all in Thai!!! You have to get the bus for Rayong to Chiangmai, picks up in Pattaya, That is the next to bottom block on the right, under the line. Timetable.. As to the train, again I got off at Den Chai but it was okay...but going into central Bangkok is tiresome if you have baggage. There are many flights now but beware that the budget carriers (Air Asia for eg) have moved back to Don Muang.
