  2. Looks like a fun day out. Did the weather hold up...we keep getting afternoon thunderstorms? Glad to hear nobody perished due to the under-supply of approved life-vests!
  3. Back to the OP....... For me it is becoming more about the prices than the girl's attitudes. And a slight decline in the choice in many places (didn't they used to be packed like chicks in a battery?) Sure they are a bit more mercenary but it doesn't seem to hit me too hard.... the experienced girls take one look at my Singha vest, hair that hasn't been cut for 3 months, baggy shorts and sandals with black socks and they look elsewhere and let me enjoy my beer. The ones who know me come on over as there is nothing better for them and they apply a decent attitude until flash Harry, who wants to be the centre of attention, comes on in...and good luck to them. A warm beer at 145 baht for me, a 300 baht 'hit' to have a cute one on each side for 12.4 seconds before the dreaded 'one more for she?'....despite the fact that my regard for money is waning like my libido, I feel the vampire's teeth sucking me dry as painful. Perhaps I should swathe my ankles in 'OFF' repellent and join the 50 baht/beer crowd served up by the 80 kilo old-girl whose top and shorts are a few sizes too small, her make-up a few sizes too big and tolerate the smell of sweat wafting over from the guys who saw the sun go down there.
  4. Well maybe this week as I hear you are staying in getting over the 'bug'.......You have to watch these condos.....sometimes the power outlets on a 'shared' wall can be wired to the wrong meter. Cheaper to jumper the sockets on each side together than run separate wires!
  5. So it is not really near Secrets rather on 2nd Rd where Soi 14 comes out. ???( I know, I am pedantic, but I have wasted a lot of my life on inexact directions.)
  6. I just did a quick check for a return early December and the cheapest I found was 3400 round trip total...... somewhat more. Add the cost of getting to Don Muang relative to a bus station on Sukhumvit in Pattaya and obviously some would like to make that saving.Even mid-January yielded 2580 baht......looks like the deals are no more.

  8. Glasgow? As many say the customers at Wallmart are a particular breed, or in-breed. The way these items are advertised and sold makes some sort of scrum likely, I wonder if they want this to happen.
  9. Could you nail that position down for me please? Is it after the Soi 14/15 junction.....veer left or right there...which side of street? I want a baseball bat!
  10. Tom Cruise.
  11. I went into the office at Mai-Pang and the wall had several letters posted praising the insurance. The English was pretty good so I think they were genuine. If the bike owner who rents out, also supplied the insurance, surely it is a matter of not having to shell out for the bike you damaged. Your liability could just be the deposit. Hospital bills might of course be a whole other matter.
  12. It is a tiered charging rate.... but 1500 baht/month seems a lot for a condo if you rarely use the AC. What big - consumption items do you have, Electric Oven, large plug in vibrator? As I said mine averages out at 4.5baht/unit so your number sounds okay.
  13. Green shield stamps..... Yeah the TGF tells me to save them but when I get sick of seeing them lying around I chuck them out. I recall in Hong-Kong an old lady used to scrounge them off you as you came out of the store.... surprised that doesn't happen here.

  15. Mai-Pang used to offer some supplementary cover. Beware their website though .... it is giving me a warning on my site advisor.
  16. Brokeback Mountain.
  17. I am not 100% certain as my pal picked up the tab, but I think a bottle of beer was 145 baht in Spankys last night. That would mark the annual high season price round-up. I was in Superbaby prior at 120 baht a beer but the atmosphere was better suited to an astronaut. A half hour in another venue yielded a 600 baht tab......... Dragging cases of beer up steps is looking less arduous these days.
  18. Is there still a public pool on Mike Shopping Mall?
  19. Sounds rather arduous when there is a bus service alternative via Swampy.

  21. If I had, I wouldn't need to be asking the TGF. She attends 'The Fountain of Life'. I should call it a women's centre I suppose so scrub that off your list!

  23. Mine averaged out (it is a tiered price structure) at about 4.5 baht per unit including a bit of tax. That makes Thailand 50% more expensive. But as I said it is tiered and if you are a higher level consumer those extra units are at a higher price. I use about 600 units/month.
  24. I always use the place near the house....... (except when on a road trip), a tiny 10 baht tip every time I fill up and I feel I am remembered, given good service by the cute young girls and have never felt they would cheat me...often get the free bottle of water or box of tissues. Paying attention in Thailand should be the general rule, people taking cash are frequent cheats worldwide. Even had the girl at the bus-station in Moe chit trying it on for the few baht difference between the motorway bus and the non-motorway one. I find it most offensive in the hospitality 'industry'. people you would normally tip short changeing you or playing stupid games hiding coins.
