I might use Emirates, but Easy Jet...... don't really do these hops to obscure European airports. As someone else sad Easyjet pricing is normally 50 cents for the flight plus $250 for the add-ons, +$20 to take a dump on the plane.

I always get there too soon....... the ride to the airport is 1.5 hours at most, except when...... I came back from the airport last night...whizzed along well within the usual 1.5 hours, but in the opposite direction there was quite a tailback for a stretch of a km or so. Unsure of the cause but the stretch before the motorway split off, at about km 80 is always heavy, a lot of trucks, one accident and things are going to be bad.

Not sure what being a CU represents, but I do recall from my time in the USA being surprised at the small local banks and their lack of worldly services. In the little UK we have National banks who are experienced and accommodating to international needs. Buy travellers cheques!

Sounds like your USA bank is a problem here. If an intermediary bank gets used you can bet they want their piece of the action..... I would find a bank that is 'sure' about a few things.

The procedure your USA bank requires is specific to that bank. Generally USA banks are not as geared up to international stuff as many from other countries. You should investigate that yourself. A OTP on a Thai phone number should not be required to transfer into that Thai account. Your Thai account may well verify it has received money using an SMS, or you can verify by viewing that account on-line. You do not need an international Bank, just a Thailand bank account with a major Thai bank be it Kasikorn, Bangkok Bank or SCB. How long it takes to get internet services associated to it after opening it may vary. I did so somewhat later as it was so long ago, but recall it didn't take long. Get here and get the account opened, then internet services organised, but don't depend on having transfer facilities up and running for that vacation's 'needs', IE bring some cash/TCs to deposit. I am thinking you will find the Thai end easier than the USA end.

I can understand them wanting to deter people from loading up their plates and not eating all their food, but surely leaving something behind (the gristle from the meat, the tasteless veggies, whatever) should be expected. Awkward one to police I suspect. I have felt the same sense of waste, for example, seeing what an Arabic family can leave behind at a buffet breakfast. I suppose if it doesn't taste like camel-milk yoghurt they don't want to eat it!
