You could bring an electric drill, some large bits and anchor bolts along with the safe.... do remember that the electrical voltage is 220vac (50hz) in Thailand, so you may need to bring a transformer and adaptor plugs too. And a large socket wrench. An alternative, for a more secure fixing, would be an arc welder......

I have been to Koh Tao. It is certainly a beautiful place, but I thought it remained so due to the fact it was not so easy to get to. I suppose you cannot deny the locals the opportunity to wealth that mass tourism will bring.....

And you don't mind your bathroom looking like a doss house! I am not sure I want to carry a tool box around with me every trip..... I often have problems finding a place to secure my computer cable to when it won't fit into the safe.

People are renting with the government mandated insurance....effectively limited 3rd party cover. Most people in Thailand are riding about with that, or less. Generally renters liability is defined in a contract they sign, in both Thai and English. Your other questions might be specific to any supplementary insurance companie's policy, should you be able to find one. I knew one rental company that did offer supplementary insurance. Even then, covering for theft, in Pattaya, is hard to find. I have a policy, I was persuaded it was a good idea as the obligatory insurance would not cover the bond required to keep me out of jail...I was told, as usual, farangs have to pay more. If a person does not have a motorcycle licence perhaps he should not be renting a bike...nevertheless you have to accept that in Thailand not all rules are obeyed, and some personal risk/responsibility is required.... it is far from a nanny state.

Like most people I suspect a combination of decent food at a reasonable price and a high level of service, polite staff, who get it right and things don't take too long. As I live out of town I also have to consider how easy the place is to get to and where can I park..... I lose my appetite sitting at polluted Pattaya junctions.... Of course in Pattaya you need to consider how much foot traffic there is too.

78 hours.... there is a bus leaves off Sukhumvit Pattaya (Nakhonchai Air) that goes through Phitsanulok heading to Mai Sai. which skirts Bangkok. Even changing at Moechit would not take 78 hours....!
