Well each region has a limited number of streets or Sois so the Soi 33 Naklua Rd nails it down to the second road on the right after the Dolphin roundabout, heading out of town. (Numbers start at the far end) Here The Moo 5 is abbreviation for moobaan....5, which is like a village/hamlet number (a subdivision of tambon). Then the 159/173....well the 173 defines the house number, (my neighbour has an adjacent number), leaving the 159 to represent a block or something like that. It is something related to land plots and are assigned as they are subdivided, hence chronologically more than location wise. Hence it can appear illogical. It seems to make sense to the post office. If you are working to a budget, then actually you are worrying about what you are spending.Even when I go out, I have limits........ the contents of my pocket (I never bring ATM card out and live too far off to drunkenly go get them). I see some guys ringing the bell or whatever, usual gaggle of GG girls and fat servers on the scrounge, and wonder 'how much did this guy bring out'?

Did I say tipping? No, the idea of presuming tips and reducing salary I find unsavoury. I think everyone should be paid a minimum wage. And what makes you think a waiter is necessarily less fortunate than a customer? I find it tacky, that in an advanced country like the USA, they deliberately reduce the salaries of a particular group of hard working people, and force them to become beggars, relying on the hand-outs from others. Karma, I don't much go in for Deities or religions.

Not sure about that. New drugs come along now and again and detection is always playing catch-up. I think the deterrent that a drug taker can be uncovered retroactively justifies it.

Yeah, you will have a good time. I can drink 18 beers but if they were draft I think my head would explode! The lady drinks are a killer on a night out, they are surprisingly cheaper in GGBs than BBs (mostly). But if you can speak Thai and crack a joke with them, and are a young fellah to boot I think you will be pissing off a few of the grizzly old Expats as you will have all the company!

I think it is of more concern how the renters treat them which is often an unknown quantity. But with a fully automatic bike like this, abuse is harder.

Some areas are well known for putting ketchup on everything. I came from a household where the HP/Daddies only came out for the Sunday AM breakfast......unless there was a weekday fry-up for tea.I always thought they did more of this in the USA. French fries had to be eaten with fingers and ketchup. The GF there wondered why she ate salads and put on weight, could have been the blue cheese dressing eh?

That is why Pattaya is popular, you can find cheap and the big spenders are handled quite well too. You sound like you will find your way around and be OK. Do you speak Thai?

I thought the presumed tips factored into the (reduced) salary (and tax) was a USA thing and not semi-Third world countries so much.And I don't see it as anything to be proud of, I always thought this practice was unsavoury. Many countries have a minimum wage level that even waiters must be paid. You say there are countries where waiters receive no salary whatsoever, where is that?

I always leave a tip in restaurants and bars. It has come to be expected in the tourist areas. Odd twenty baht for few beers, 50-60 baht after a meal, 1 or 2 people..
