  1. I have had a lot of promo emails coming in for cheap flights from the UK, particularly if you buy in January and fly soon. Emirates have some great deals. My friend from Oz booked Air Asia to come to LOS in March (obviously change in KL)
  2. That is a great post MM. Interesting to see an owners perspective to something I find hard to grasp, a reason for being a barowner.I have decided to undertake a few years of research myself!
  3. Loss of memory in Pattaya isn't so rare, by the way I live here. I think, let me look outside, yes, I do.Yes TCs can be a hassle, but to be honest I changed cash yesterday and the bank gave me just about as much hassle as I ever had with TCs, seriously. My fault for using an out of town branch I suppose... the girl was cute though, if slow and under training. TCs are covered if stolen, Amex, for example, will organise replacement quite quickly, so I am afraid you are wrong there. Also yes they do charge to exchange them, but that is covered by a better exchange rate. Don't take my word for it, research it yourself. I was at Bangkok airport Tuesday and there the TC rate was 1 baht/£ better than cash. So change £34 or more and you are ahead. That differentlal surprised me, normally it is a little less, but always better for the TCs. A money belt, really, you will get a prickly heat rash.
  4. Road to Perdition.
  5. Sounds complicated. I would lose track of where my money is. Not sure that is the best advice notquite.
  6. I seem to recall that I could get more from another banks machine with the same card.
  7. Chris Elliot
  8. Aha another opportunity to bad mouth the Brits and make it look like someone else is responsible.
  9. Take a look... I used to like this place some years back.
  10. It doesn't seem so bad, perhaps a lot of construction was meant to be done before high season.... What there is is a lot of roads being dug up, large drain pipes being installed. Seems like every street I turn down is blocked.

  12. I retired here before turning 50.I hadn't lived in my home country for quite a few years as I worked overseas, and had no desire whatsoever to re-establish a taxation arrangement with them! I would never in a million years invest in a business in Thailand. Firstly, I am retired, so do not wish to start working again. Secondly I think the chances of success are unlikely. You know the adage about making a small fortune in a Thai business! Do you know that Mistys for example, is a financial success, have you talked to Andy? I agree, I know some people can't retire and do nothing, and thrive when set a challenge. More power to them, but I never took well to some of the tricks one likely needs to master to succeed here. And although not specifically a question you asked, define a financially secure situation. Methinks the events of the last 5 years have proven a few wrong on that claim made in 2005!
  13. I would not have been so persevering, considering Bangkok Bank seemed very happy to give me an account. (Work.......????)I was also put off SCB because there always seems to be a Q at the ATMs at BigC South where I often shop, and once when I used one of their machines they limited my withdrawal. Surprised you feel their ATMs work when others don't...can't say I have had many problems with BB ATMs. Now Aeon machines often seem to be out of order, all those damned 'in the know' expats trying to save 150 baht. I agree about Kasicorn, hearing a lot of positive statements regarding their service.
  14. Molly Ringwald
  15. I know you are trying Joe.
  16. Waffling a bit Joe?Back to counting....... I thought I was making great strides when I didn't have to count through the Thai numbers with my fingers to get to the one I wanted. I seemed to stop learning at that milestone.
  17. That's the sin bin man, stay away from that one.
  18. Annoyingly cabin announcements override the IFE. I tolerate them until I can get back to Tom and Jerry.
  19. George Carlin
  20. I mooched around but was unable to determine which engines were going with this order.I know you aren't impressed with the RR Trents.
  21. Well United just about hung in there... Scholes gave one away seconds after coming on.
  22. I had read it too, but I take instruction poorly!Good job eh?
  23. it might depend how much notice you were required to give according to the lease/contract.Apparently there is a nefarious British guy who rents out and won't return all your deposit.
  24. Perhaps had I took employment at a primary school?
