It was not cancelled, the outwards went on schedule, but a week or so prior they moved my return booking by a day. There was no way to cancel on-line, and I certainly was not joining the long unhealthy and risky queue at their office in town. The Credit Cards don't seem to work the same here, had zero feedback on a past issue, so really don't waste my time. Non-refundable means non-refundable this time!

I hear rumours.....for those Expats who live here using a Retirement Extension, based on money in the bank (800,000 baht). You may recall the requirement changed in March 2019 from 800,000 baht for 3 months prior to the application, (usually proven with copy of from bank book and a bank letter), to then requiring 800k for 2 months prior, followed by 800k for a further 3 month, then it was permitted to withdraw down to 400,000 baht.... but would need to be back up to 800k, 2 months prior to subsequent extension. Jomtiem even imposed a requirement to come back 3 month after the extension renewal ,to confirm you were obeying the requirement.... nowhere else did this, except another couple of north Thailand small IOs. That above requirement was strange in that it became terms of your current extension, many wondered how this could be checked when effectively, you got the one-year permit to stay, and need not necessarily go back to immigration, until applying for the next. I hear Jomtiem is now asking for 12 months of bank statements to see if Expats have complied on Extension applications being made now, and presumably from now on. The statements need to be stamped and issued by the bank. Not sure if a bank book one has kept updated will suffice, which is what I expected and planned for. Fortunately I am not due until November, and I skipped my 3 month, 800k verification as we were slipping into Covid crowding! I would appreciate feedback from anyone doing a retirement extensions renewal, based on the money in the bank, whether Jomtiem or Nakhon Nowhere.

Well most exchange places are closed, and on the markets the pound is doing quite poorly against the baht, so I would expect around 38.5. I was in BigCX Mall yesterday to see it start to open up, but for once didn't take a look at the TT Exchange in there. I took a pic a week prior but their display is behind glass and it always comes out with a lot of reflection and near useless. I will get one sometime soon.

I agree with that sentiment.... in fact I had a ride around town myself yesterday morning and took some pics, I actually deleted them as they were a bit depressing. I got my wires crossed thinking a few eating places in the Mall might be open, and I could park myself in Subway watching the world go by as I used to. Not really, nobody was going by, and the few eating places that were open were only for take-out. They had the AC on fully, very welcome, and I noticed a few who normally lived outside had moved in, the lottery ticket sellers, and those selling cooked food usually in the car park. I had to laugh at MK, they had set up a little table outside for takeout collection and there is a box with a sign in English, 'Tip Box' prominently displayed. I noticed a lot more people seemed to carelessly ride the wrong way nowadays on Rds that would normally be 1-way, and come at you as if you are in the wrong, have you noticed that on the bike, or are you similarly inclined?

Yes, along with a big red button someplace as a separate trigger. Then the system would go into pre-alarm so that the room could be evacuated before dumping whatever chemical.. They can be triggered by rapid rise heat sensors, or smoke detectors automatically. Some systems I recall you could actually block the automatic dump.

I am not surprised, it is many many years since I worked on fire suppressant systems but they were fitted with a way to activate them manually back then.

Strange perspective, I wonder if those in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Tibet etc are in full agreement? Perhaps the Uighur have input too. As for China not letting it's own people suffer, well they are not big on Human Rights are they?

I guess it depends on how well one did. I had a flight booked in March ex Thailand on a non refundable basis, and they certainly stuck to that policy! I believe the outwards flight did fly, the return was rescheduled to another day without my input, but had I gone I would have had problems getting back into Thailand. My Thai credit card does not work the same as ones elsewhere. Still, I count my blessings to be here rather than my destination that week.
