Shrinking Pattaya Reservoirs
jacko replied to forcebwithu's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Is what unprecedented, the drought or the heavy rain? The drought has been exceptional due to poor rains last year, the current rain, well might be slightly early in the season but is far from unusual. Down to a drizzle now but the skies rumble on. https://weather.tmd.go.th/svp120Loop.php -

I have no idea, I can say if they had the same rainfall there, their level should be somewhat higher. Trouble is, unlike my pool, a lake gets wider/bigger as it gets deeper. -

Again last night was very heavy and persistent rain in my area, and looking at the radar map it looks widespread.Woken up by thunderstorms at 1am, and it is still raining this morning. I expect floods in town and my estimate is 4-5 inches of rain fell (12-13cm). Lakes should have benefited. -

Had a lot of rain yesterday in my area, garden needs cutting and I could do a back-wash on the pool! -
Showing a bit of ignorance there, Brits would never have hot dogs for breakfast. If I recall even MM thought it heinous. You get the butterflied and deep fried ones here with an 'American breakfast,' truly disgusting!

If my memory does not fail me, I may even have given you a positive nod wrt the O-A some years ago, recommending it as very suitable for you. Then along came the insurance obligation and now I have a guilty conscience!

Yes I quite enjoyed it too, yes a bit gloomy and dark. Fits the times.

Well it is unclear to me then why you asked the question. I don't even see it as shooting themselves in the foot were they to consider changes..... The cynic in me says they would like to push more of us into the hands of agents.

No no, do not get me wrong, I want out, very much so. But the Covid measures and the economy and the spending now are frightening new ogres.

I think of it as levels before Brexit actually happened.... I hate to admit this but UK is driving itself towards a bad future.

We don't know that and have no reason to expect it.

What has this got to do with Thai International going belly up?

This discussion of USA bankruptcy procedures may be off topic here..... This is Thailand, they do things their own way. I was chatting on the phone with a neighbour about this last night , but am unable to confirm what he was telling me from another source, here is one summary I found. With disastrous future forecasts looming there is an urgency for the government to distance itself from the airline, it is after-all the airline’s financial backer of last resort. They cannot be happy with this year’s projected losses for the first six months of a catastrophic ฿18 billion. The airline faced a cash crisis this month and had to conserve cash flow in order to meet its payroll commitments https://www.traveldailymedia.com/thai-government-divest-share-in-thai-airways/

The standard bank letter (which they keep) is short and really states little, mainly confirms you have this account and likely the balance on that day. When you say 'copy of bank book', did you have to show 800k had been there for 2 months, or more comprehensibly, that you had funds for the complete year as stipulated? Interesting that they want a 3 month return to prove the 800k untouched.... I am hoping that is all they need. I have my bank book sitting on my table to go get it updated.... then it will show the balance has been maintained.

Likely you fit it in some ways, I am expecting you have an agent arranged retirement extension. I think any further requirements, like having to get 12 months of bank statements, pushes people to do things that way.... something I believe they want to do.

It was not cancelled, the outwards went on schedule, but a week or so prior they moved my return booking by a day. There was no way to cancel on-line, and I certainly was not joining the long unhealthy and risky queue at their office in town. The Credit Cards don't seem to work the same here, had zero feedback on a past issue, so really don't waste my time. Non-refundable means non-refundable this time!

No here in Thailand on a local CC.

I hear rumours.....for those Expats who live here using a Retirement Extension, based on money in the bank (800,000 baht). You may recall the requirement changed in March 2019 from 800,000 baht for 3 months prior to the application, (usually proven with copy of from bank book and a bank letter), to then requiring 800k for 2 months prior, followed by 800k for a further 3 month, then it was permitted to withdraw down to 400,000 baht.... but would need to be back up to 800k, 2 months prior to subsequent extension. Jomtiem even imposed a requirement to come back 3 month after the extension renewal ,to confirm you were obeying the requirement.... nowhere else did this, except another couple of north Thailand small IOs. That above requirement was strange in that it became terms of your current extension, many wondered how this could be checked when effectively, you got the one-year permit to stay, and need not necessarily go back to immigration, until applying for the next. I hear Jomtiem is now asking for 12 months of bank statements to see if Expats have complied on Extension applications being made now, and presumably from now on. The statements need to be stamped and issued by the bank. Not sure if a bank book one has kept updated will suffice, which is what I expected and planned for. Fortunately I am not due until November, and I skipped my 3 month, 800k verification as we were slipping into Covid crowding! I would appreciate feedback from anyone doing a retirement extensions renewal, based on the money in the bank, whether Jomtiem or Nakhon Nowhere.
