The Truth about Aids/HIV
midlifecrisis replied to PattayaPete's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
People believe in lots of things. They believe in God. They believe in there is no God. The nice thing about science is you do not need to believe. Science is just the current understanding of how something works. People who believe in God cannot believe it and you can't give them any evidence that will get them to change their minds. The same goes for atheists and belief in aliens or the Bigfoot. Science is a method in which data is collected and tested. You do not believe results. You do retest them. And a certain point you say that absence of further evidence this is the best understanding we have of what is going on. It is the antithesis of a belief system. Belief systems rely on dogma. They work on the principle that you need to convert others to your beliefs. Science is intellectual. Belief is emotional. That said there are some who say they are scientific and then call people things like climate change deniers. That is not science. That is politics. More belief system. -
The one time I did not use the search function that you had educated me on last year. The Duchess and the Dirtwater Fox which is what I was first going to go with. I did a search this time.

The Truth about Aids/HIV
midlifecrisis replied to PattayaPete's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
So, if aids is not cause by HIV, why is it that when the viral load decreases from the use of antivirals, the health of patients radically improves. Most people do not understand science or the scientific method. There are many things we cannot see actually occur. Science forms a hypothesis and tests it. In the case of HIV and aids the hypothesis was that a virus could be the underlying cause. After a long period of trial and error and developing new antiviral medications, people have now been in remission for years. It is true that they cannot see this happen but the hypothesis has continued to be tested. They rotate viral meds as one regimen becomes ineffective. Magic Johnson has done well and aids in the USA is way down as a cause of death but people are on the meds for life at this time. What was an acute fatal disease is know a chronic infection that can be controlled. Hopefully before too much more time goes on they will find a way to permanently kill the HIV virus as they have the HepC virus. They cannot cure herpes but they have a method to prevent shingles which is from chickenpox which is related to herpes. Scientific models are not about certainty. Most people do not understand the scientific method. This is part of the problem. Other non scientific theories take hold. Those are more akin to belief systems. If you are ill, see a medical professional. The late Steve McQueen got fatal lung cancer and went to Mexico because he hoped for a non scientific cure. Was that laetrile? Needless to say it did not work. What science tells us about HIV in brief: The virus has been found in saliva, blood and other bodily fluids. Needle freaks and fudge packers have an increased chance of contracting it. Women have a greater chance of contracting the virus from men than vice versa. Circumcised men have a lesser risk than non circumcised males. You are at risk of genital warts HPV from getting a blowjob if the woman has the virus in her oral cavity. A guy can transfer HPV or herpes from the vagins to the mouth of a partner. A guy can get oral herpes or HPV from oral sex. I too hate condoms. Maybe at 66 I need not be so concerned. To think it won't happen because it has never happened is silly. You pays your price and you takes your chance. The thing about science is that if something different is found, true science will correct itself. With a belief system it never changes despite evidence to the contrary. If there are issues with science it is not the method. People are fallible and corruptible but that applies to true believers as well. I will take my chances with science. One last thing. The reason they got onto the virus is because there is a simian form of Aids. When they tested the animals they found a virus that seems to be a relative of HIV. One theory has it having jumped across species. That could have been from handling simian blood when butchering. They do not know for sure but it is suspiciously similar. -

BKK to Pattaya - Best pickup service?
midlifecrisis replied to Lucas's topic in Transport in Thailand
yes agreed it takes just once but the airport has other options as you all have noted, from the bus to a yellow taxi. -
I know what you mean. My folks watched Lawrence Welk and Buck Owens. Good musicianship and good song writing goes are found in many genre's.

I just watched "Hell or High Water". It has a good country soundtrack.

Cody Jinx released a cover of Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" There are some covers I like better than the original. Santana's cover of "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" is one. This is another and I was a huge fan of Pink Floyd.

My daughter is getting married in a few months and asked me to choose a father daughter dance song. She loves the choice. Should I teach her to waltz? It isn't hard. 1,2,3 1,2,3 1,2,3 1,2,3 I know I am going to tear up. Anyway.

BKK to Pattaya - Best pickup service?
midlifecrisis replied to Lucas's topic in Transport in Thailand
I have always used Secrets. I have no idea what their current rate is but they have always been there ahead of me at the waiting area and they know their way to and around Pattaya. I have no experience with any other service but have used cabs in Bangkok to go as far as Ayutthaya and back. Very reliable. Not expensive. I forgot exactly how much I payed but it was not a lot. -

Could not connect last night
midlifecrisis replied to midlifecrisis's topic in Technical problems or questions.
Thanks. I suspected it was hardware related and glad that it is resolved. As you say it was previously addressed, I have no problem if you lock this topic. -
Taboo keeps me curious, especially as relates to James Delaney's time in Africa. I want to see more as relates to the occult. I am not a big fan of Hardy except for The Revenant. In Taboo he kind of mumbles his way through the scenes and I have turned on the captioning even though I do not have hearing issues. I was not impressed with the escape fight. They sure got that ship out to sea fast under fire. I enjoyed Jonathan Pryce. He is always great. I have to agree with MM on the sets, scenery and costumes that gave the feel of early 19th century London, especially the waterfront. I too look forward to season two.

Last night I lost the ability to connect to Pattaya Talk. The message said that there was no response from the DNS server. It is the first time I recall this happening. This happened for hours but obviously is back today for me. I am just curious what happened.

Finished "The Americans" season two. Better than season one. I gave up on "Jessica Jones". When the main character consistently has control of her agenda and then wanders off leaving her situation in the control of other people who have their own agendas............comic book writing. I enjoyed the season Finale of "Taboo" Watched the first episode of "American Crime" season one. Felicity Huffman is such a bitch on the show. If my ex-wife was like that I would be sorely tempted to......... The Modesto, California cops are portrayed as out to convict others despite evidence to the contrary and violate the rights of others. One episode was enough.

BKK to Pattaya - Best pickup service?

I have not done it that way and have found that the services I have used are asking for toll costs along the route. Is that the case with the yellow taxis as well? -
Looks like the players have responded to the change based on the past two weeks.

those are nice butt flaps on your avatar. Agoda, com or the hotel website. One thing I found is to cancel Agoda is simpler. It can take days and days for folks to reply from some hotels.

I am curious, during heavy rains, how is the drainage? We have all seen flooded streets at ground level in Pattaya and Bangkok.
